No, I don't have a blu-ray drive, unfortunately.
Resolution is greatly improved, sharpening artifacts are gone. However, the colour palette is completely different. Contrast is also hotter, resulting in crushed blacks here and there,(but oddly in this shot, the contrast looks worse in the older release). These are pulled from a smartphone and won't show any real differences in detail, but you can see the other changes. I made a version with the HDTV master, Criterion commentary track, and Superbit DTS audio personally It was always ugly but would like to see the improvements, the sharpening is odd as they used VV for effects shots |

That's just what I was thinking. I remember seeing caps of an open-matte HDTV version a while ago and the colour didn't have that awful pink tinge and it looked so much better. I'm glad to hear that the new transfer has also done away with the pink! I'm off to order it right now.
Not if it's part of the original effects work. Spider-Man still has some ringing, even on the new transfer because it's baked in to the image. Same goes for Charlie's Angels Full Throttle, which had an early-ish DI and the Blu-ray is full of contrasty edge halos which is EXACTLY what I saw in the theater in 2003. |

For the record the LD looks terrific for LD standards and the DVD looks great for DVD standards, haven't seen the Blu but considering it was an early release with the format having come so far over the last 3 or so years, I'm assuming its disappointing for Blu-Ray standards despite still being better then the other 2. |

As long as the pinky magenta hue is gone, some reframing (which is always a slightly loose concept for a Super 35 show) won't bother me.
These aren't caps of the M4K disc, but they really show up the awful timing of the current version. http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...less=0#auswahl |

![]() I had no idea that Spider-Man 2 was shot Super 35. Wasn't Spider-Man 3 shot on Super 35 as well? Are the full frame TV broadcasts for both films Open Matte? |
