A bit better than this financial news from CNBC which I suspect directly or indirectly (thru your parents) affects most all membership here who are not independently wealthy is this -

https://www.cnn.com/videos/business/...ets-investing/

(regarding which I’m afraid to even look at the hit our 401k’s, mutual funds, etc. have taken, especially after this week - https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/21/us-s...own-fears.html)

is a piece CNBC did today on Dolby……with the spiel on Dolby Vision at around the 3 min. timestamp -

Lol. I dunno, PM. Last time I tried to squeeze into one of those it wasn't a pretty sight. Needed 2 lbs of butter and the jaws of life... and not necessarily in that order.

Latest Multi-HDR table:

HDR10+ will also be implemented by Hisense and TCL already supporting Dolby Vision.

"After months of research and multiple simulations, the team, led by Dr. Li Tao, finally landed on a mathematical curve that was flexible enough to do the job.

The idea was to mimic the way that studios edit scenes. The Bézier curve turned out to be the perfect choice for replicating fragmentation, which meant that it would represent creators’ intentions more precisely. However, before they could utilize the curve as a base for creating dynamic metadata through mathematical optimization, the team would have to modify it first. It was at this point that they had the innovative idea to enhance its flexibility by transforming the two-dimensional curve to a one-dimensional data set.

With this increased flexibility came the ability to create optimized tone-mapping curves for each scene. By combining this with an algorithm that automatically transforms each curve into metadata, the team created a powerful tool that would allow Samsung’s TVs to offer consumers truly immersive viewing experiences."

Nevertheless, I’m wondering in the minds of home video enthusiasts if this news further supports/reaffirms the notion of the value of dynamic metadata (over that of static metadata), or if some still maintain HDR10 is good enough for their viewing and display chain….if they can’t get or don’t need Dolby Vision.
I still think HDR10 is good enough if the TV or the player have good tone mapping..... My Sony TV does....

I don’t know Suzie, but I can tell you that despite being a competitor to other HDR solutions, for a long time, as a talented, hard working engineer and good person , Li has garnered the respect she deserves….

Well John, I appreciate the thought given us grown-ups in the room received coal in their 401k stockings this Christmas go-around (traditionally, back in *normal* times, PaulGo hasn’t there always been a Christmas rally?).

Now all I want for the New Year is for the hemorrhaging to stop, but before this turbulent market phase is over, we may all have to moonlight in order to recoup our losses, which at least for my wife and I includes funds not just for consumeristic disposable income items like for new TVs, players and such, but serious savings for unexpected calamities like eye-watering health care bills or substantial home repairs, etc. So, anyone know if the ‘Space Force’ is still accepting applications?, I'm game for the graveyard shift -

a better remedy for me might be to either not even open the mail containing our next mutual fund(s) statements (just shred them immediately upon receipt) or resort to your age-old solution, Coronado style –

This is just the tip of the iceberg. The fed has created a bubble over the last 10 years that is eventually going to make 2008-09 look like walk in the park before it's all said and done. The bigger the bubble burst, the harder the fall. People need to prepare for it...the earlier the better.

CNBC are the same clowns who said the housing market was great in late 2007 and that Fannie and Freddy were solid. lol

They also just said a couple weeks ago it was a great time to start buying stocks on "lows" - and look at how much further things dropped since then. These guys are paid by the financial industry so they are pushing people to buy at every moment. Even the other day they were telling people now is a good time to buy.
