Until the rest of the world gets flat-rate cheap internet streaming has no chance. Most industrial nations have expensive internet with monthly caps. Most developing nations have outrageously expensive and slow internet.

I'm not saying that streaming won't replace Blu-ray in the future, but I believe it is comfortably far-off in the future enough to NOT be worth worrying about.

Don't agree that bigger is actually better 60" is enough for me home, $10k is actually too much for a set up for just audio alone, but that is just me. Some people like to do these set ups at home so I'm happy if that is what you want.

I certainly hope you are playing nothing but blu ray, what is interesting is that it is certainly possible (depending on your setup of course) that you are actually exceeding what is currently being shown in many digital 2K movie theatres.

Nice pics!

Let's face it. A lot of people don't collect movies like we do. They would rather watch it for free than pay for it, and they would rather not have hundreds or thousands of cases taking up space in their homes.

I actually enjoy having a library of cinema. It's my hobby and I feel movies are the highest form of art there is. Combining drama, acting, music, writing, stories, pictures, the whole enchilada.

Owning physical copies, those days are numbered. I mean look at cds. And, we've reached the apex for home video. 3D? Sorry, but that's a niche.

60 inch is too much? the projector world begs to differ, theres a LOT of people with anywhere from 100-200 inch screens and the 70 inch vizios are selling like hotcakes this year. and it's QUITE easy to spend $10,000 on audio equipment. I'm almost at that stage myeself with my newest speakers (building about a set of Tempest 12 SEOS builds that can rival a $4000 setup just for L/R/C Surrounds), go on avs in the audio forums and many of these guys spend between $6k-$20k each on their audio systems.

A lot depends on the size of the room (and of course, the budget), but for me bigger is always better when it comes to movies and sports. My 80" Sharp is "OK", but the 90", which my nephew bought last month, looks even better, and I wouldn't mind having crazyBLUE's 106" set-up. I would imagine there is a saturation point at which an increase in size no longer matters, but I'm not sure what that would be? 2001: A Space Odyssey would look good on a 120" screen. In any case, a quality streaming service would be required to satisfy big screen owners (and 4K is on the horizon), but for now Blu-ray is dependable, high quality, getting less expensive, and offers pride of ownership of the movies.

[QUOTE=pagemaster;7130022]You said only blu ray collectors love movies and you also said you want the best quality so you should be seeking out a theatrical release in 70 or 35 if that is the case.[/QUOT

We are talking home cinema and collections, not cinema. For the record, I have been to several Imax presentations.

My favorite argument someone made to me in favor of streaming:

"A natural disaster can take out your whole collection"

I hope you informed them that Skynet would do the same.

For me, anything past 60" and I would rather just go to an actual movie theatre.

ok, not bashing you at all but why would a bigger than 60 inch screen turn you off? for myself and MANY others we no longer go to the theater anymore because at our viewing distance (about 10 feet for 120 inches) our home theaters are beating 95% of commercial theater in both picture and sound (especially sound since I've never been to a theater where they aren't bottoming out their subs or driving the audio so loud that it becomes painful because they automatically think louder is better)

For personal home use, 60" is enough or about the max for me. I would rather just see a new release in the theatre with a good crowd. At 60" you are pretty much locked in for showing blu rays only and I don't like that idea. I still use laserdisc, dvd, blu ray, and I also enjoy streaming and to get my money's I can use which ever format I want and they will all show decent quality up to about 60".

ahhh, guess that's where we differ. I HATE the cinema, besises the technical issues I HATE being around most people in public. I end up getting so pissed off that I want to curb stomp them and their children for talking, moving around, getting up in front of me etc.

and that's why you have 2 tvs. one for SD content and multiple for larger things like blu-ray (my pj is pretty much use for HD content while my 55 and 50 incher are used for gaming and sd content)

and as for never having that happen to you, I'm honestly surprised. the theater threads are FILLED with people complaining of the same thing. here in town we have 14 theaters, at EACH of them I either deal with "out of focus projectors", lights being turned on in the projection room and shining on the screen, subs that are being over driven, subs that are broken, films that aren't zoomed properly and have HUGE spillover, the list goes on and on.

The last number of movies I have seen I had had no issues, The Master/Skyfall/ and The Dark Knight Rises were all in superb 70mm, these rest I have seen in 2K digital or IMAX Digital and when you are projecting digital presentations they are generally flawless each and every performance.

must be lucky and have good theaters around you. my closest IMAX or 70mm capable theater is 2 hours away and the theaters around here all employ 17 year olds to run everything from front desk to projectionists.

Dark Knight rises was so bad we actually went out and complained (along with a LOT of other people) because the subs were being driven so loud and the volume was so high that people were putting their hands over their ears because of the pain
