I liked the movie myself, but was somewhat disappointed. Technically the film is wonderful. Some great CGI use. I think a lot of my disappointment has to do with how different it is in tone to Alien. I was expecting a horror/thriller and got a popcorn scifi action film.
I think the film could of used some more H.G.Giger elements for sure. Besides the already established elements like the space jockey and various other patterns used for the walls and structures the new creatures really didn't have that same other worldly look that is from H.G.Giger's twisted imagination. [Show spoiler] I still liked the movie and will get the Bluray no doubt. I just think the film could of been so much more. A lot of my opinion is based off how great Alien is and what I was expecting I suppose. I still think the scene in Alien where they first discover the ship is probably one of, if not the, most realistic and best alien encounters ever filmed. The use of documentary style camera work, haunting sounds and H.R.Gigers imagery plus the realistic 'used' space freighter type ship/equipment revolutionized Sci-Fi films. Up until then a space ship crew all wore the same clean white uniforms and space ships were sterilized sleek interiors with tons of blinking lights. Prometheus really didn't introduce any new elements to SciFi in that regard and really IMO is a reflection of the state of blockbuster movie making today. Mainly shallow CGI laden special effects extravaganzas with one dimensional story telling and characters that are not fully fleshed out. Hopefully Ridley Scott will get some better writers involved and the sequel will have a more intelligent story. Just my opinion of course. Last edited by Banned User; 06-12-2012 at 02:15 PM. |

I wonder when the site is putting up their theatrical review of Prometheus? I assume they made one and it was yet another casualty of the database snafu...already seen the film, and loved it, but I like to read their reviews and see what their take is on this...divisive film.

I actually agree with the review on this site. I saw the film last night and walked away underwhelmed. I thought the first 30 minutes or so of the film was brilliant. I couldn't fathom as to why it was getting mixed reviews. But it starts to go downhill midway through the film, and the ending just left me in a disappointed state. I definitely recommend viewing the film once simply because it's part of the Alien universe and (to me at least) it is better than Alien3 or Alien: Resurrection. And if you do go see it, I recommend IMAX 3D if you are near an IMAX theater. I typically don't like 3D, but this is one of the few films where the imagery of the film is actually enhanced by 3D.
