Stick it on your shelf with the spine out so that you can tell what film it is.

+1. Thoroughly agree with you. Star Trek was a great reboot. A lot of fodder, action and sfx. The Dark Knight trilogy was a darker reboot. Nolan cut out the camp and injected grit. The same with the Bond reboot with Daniel Craig. However, Prometheus doesn't fit into any of those categories. I still stand by Scott's comment about crafting a different film from the Alien universe. Yes, there are strands of relation (the overused "DNA") but it's more of a tangent.

It utterly made me think despite science or plot holes. And it was visually stunning. A film that stands out on it's own. Just going by the "love it/hate it" comments, the film no doubt divided moviegoers so I think it's safe to say that Scott did a fine job at getting people to discuss his film.

In Blade Runner, it was human vs. deckard for Deckard

In Prometheus, its prequel vs. not prequel for us

I'm on Team Prequel.

Edit: It was 3 in the morning!

+1. Completely agree. So much so that I placed it in my top ten of the year so far, which is especially interesting considering after one viewing in the theatre, I railroaded this film online. I flat out hated the film after one viewing.

But, I will admit that it stayed with me weeks after it's release in the theatre. I couldn't shake it. It's one of the reasons I was so anxious to check out the BD. I wanted to know if my initial reaction was too harsh.

It was too harsh. It's not remotely perfect but there's just way too much excellence in the production and in the subtext of the story to outright dismiss the film. It's impossible to do it.

The exact same thing happened to me! Usually they use the seal that has the middle section cut out so this won't happen. My first thought when I saw it: Thank God for that gorgeous slipcover!

If Fassbender was not nominated for Shame, he won't be nominated for Prometheus. He'll get his Oscar one day. He's too good not to.

And it WAS an Alien prequel...then they hired Damon Lindelof, who changed it. Apparently, he just got a little lost
