Now that's funny....I hope the pun was intended! As far as the rest of your post I agree, Originally conceived as a prequel to Alien but ultimately I think it evolved into a set up for a whole new story to explore.

LOL!

To that, I would add:

The further the storyline separates from the Alien movies, the original Alien movie will look like a spin-off from Prometheus. maybe not for us that watched Alien first, but for those still unborn that will watch, maybe, 3 Prometheus movies and 4 Alien movies in the next decade.

Actually, for most fans that are new to the franchise...

Alien/Prometheus are simply a rip-off of Halo.

That said, people will somehow always find out the truth about Alien in time.

Seriously though, that really sucks. What happened exactly? Does it no longer turn on or something? If that's the case, how did you get the disc out?
It was in the middle of the special features, it frozen. Now it takes the disc but it won't run, no icons, no rotation sound, nothing. Blu-ray, dvd, games, all same result.

Ahhhh, I know what you're referring too but originally that wasn't my thought. Yeah I think the whole Alien tie-in and speculation led to some people being disappointed it wasn't a true sequel. I knew going into it that it was just a story in the same universe so I came away satisfied.

I think what Ridley did was smart. He didn't necessarily give us the answers to the questions put forth by Alien, but he did give us more material to study and come up with our own answers. This way, the original Space Jockey scene in Alien doesn't become demystified. Prometheus is a prequel to Alien, providing a few answers but not everything such that the original Alien loses its intrigue, with a sequel to Prometheus going tangential from this entire storyline. So we'll get two storylines (Alien series and Paradise series) set in the same universe with Prometheus as a sort of overlap/common ground/crossover, tying the two series together all the while keeping the mysteries of the two intact yet co-dependent.
It's pretty brilliant IMO.

You can't be all about substance then short-change audiences on substance itself.

Wow, if you think that Prometheus was trying be all serious & high brow intellectual, then I don't know what to tell ya.

Exactly. He wanted to tell another story in the same universe without re-hashing the same "Xenomorph" story again. Prometheus allowed him to do that. It gives nods & winks to the Alien series while still telling it's own story.

sorry as much as people may argue the opposite Prometheous just REEEEEEEKD of prequel. it wasn't like there was a few nods to the Alien universe.. it was full out SETTING up the other 4 alien movies, and not in a subtle way. I swear it was all Ridley Scott going "see see?? THIS is how we're gonna set up the Alien race, THIS is what the Space Jockey really is.." really REALLY crappy foreshadowing.

After watching again last night with a friend I STILL stand by my original assessment. Prometheus is a pseudo intellectual film that asks tons of unanswered questions in order to hide it hollow, soulless plot that meanders around and never truly goes anywhere. is it the worst film ever made? of course not, it's mediocre sci-fi, but it fails BADLY as a tie in to the Alien universe (and yes it IS a tie in, the movie literally SCREAMS "Im an ALIEN!!!" at you every other minute)

No. Fox wanted one, but Ridley said the theatrical version is his director's cut.

Fix it. The "fatty" is the superior model in almost every respect (except it's just slightly louder but who cares).

You must really want it be an Alien sequel. It's not nor was it ever advertised as one. It does take place in the same universe but the story is much different than the stories told in the Alien series. The unanswered questions are intentional & left open for the sequel/sequels. Prometheus is its own story & something tells me there won't be a direct tie in to the first film like many are suspecting there will be in the second film.

ummm, Ridley himself originally even SAID it was a prequel before he decided to "change" it. the general public ALL thought it was a prequel. I'm sorry, but the film itself pretty much had a big placard across it saying "guess what I'm an Alien prequel!!!!!!!!!!", it was BLATANT. Ridley may have tried to change it FROM a prequel to it's own story, but he didn't change enough from his original script. something in the same universe is comparing Alien to Blade Runner. same universe, same general "rules", but storylines completely different. Pretty much they took EVERYTHING from Alien and created a story with those same characters. as I said before, it's very mediocre sci-fi... and it's not surprising, Ridley is VERY hit or miss. he can make some great stuff, but when he fails....he fails badly. He's done some great stuff with Blade Runner, Alien etc.. but then he's got total TRASH like "Robin Hood", "hannibal", "American Gangster" etc. prometheus doesn't sink as low as those mentioned films, but it's definitely one of his weaker tries. I mean, I REALLY tried to like it. I went and saw it a second time in the theater just to make sure I wasn't just disappointed due to the hype and I just saw it again last night with a friend to see how it fared after some down time of not viewing it. I wasn't AS disappointed but now it's become even more obvious to me after viewing it 3 times how generic and rehashed the whole movie feels. the directing was decent but the scrip had me banging my head against a wall the whole time.

I don't agree with you but you're certainly entitled to your opinion. I love this film and think it's the best he has done in a long, long, long time.
