LOL, I just had enough and a few people in our sitting area tried to ssshhhh them but that failed.

The "Tony Soprano" just came out, you know the episode where he gets up and walks up to this guy wearing a baseball cap in the restaurant and asked him politely to take it off, so he stares him down.

I was really out of my character that evening but it had to be done.

Ill tell ya what - there is a thread at IMDB that really spells it all out. Its funny but its right on for the most part. For a good readm have a look...Iit really made my morning and highlighted some issues I didnt even think about. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1446714/...flat/205679462
that post pretty much summed up why I thought the FILM itself (not just as an Alien prequel) is very very flawed.

That is correct.

[Show spoiler]Check out some of the trailers to the film. They show Weyland in the vehical bay during the attack along with Shaw.

Obviously they felt that it did not work, most likey due to Shaw's recent surgery. She is also the one who puts the vehical in reverse and runs over Fifield. So they re-edited that scene.

Ok here are some observations that might not have been discussed:

at the beginning of the film,
[Show spoiler]the cave paintings found from all over the Earth, with the oldest in Scotland being 35,000 years old, all show humans with a giant being pointing to that map in the sky. “An Invitation.” They are 35,000 years old!! And everything later in the film seems to focus on events that happened on the Engineer’s planet around 2000 years ago, give or take. So who are the giant beings on Earth 35,000 years ago where all the paintings were found? Are these the same Engineers that visited us long ago and helped build civilizations and pyramids?
What were they doing there?

Also, as far as the chamber with the vases
[Show spoiler]and the wall murals changing, and black goo oozing once they entered the room, all reminds of Alien when Kane found the eggs chamber and a layer of mist that seemed to react when he touched it and then the eggs woke up. Obviously a booby trap left behind by someone or intentional in order for visitors to become infected.

And finally in Alien, what about that message sent from LV-426 that turned out to be a warning. Was it really a warning? A warning from who? The Engineer or “Space Jockey” that landed there with his cargo of biological weapons (Alien eggs)?

Any thoughts?

Can't wait for the sequel!!!!

Yea but I guess my gripe is that they didn't edit it as well as they should have...maybe? Perhaps they didn't think people would notice the guy I was referring to because his helmet was on.

[Show spoiler]Either way, I just thought those two scenes happening at the same time seemed silly. All hell is breaking loose with multiple deaths occurring and Janek yelling "What the HELL is going on down there!" and yet David, Weyland, that "soldier guy" I was referring to, and Shaw have NO idea what-so-ever with whats going on and better yet, you would think after the Fifield attack Vickers would have COMPLETELY pulled the plug on the project right then and there given that ample reason to leave given 50% of their crew has just been slaughtered.

Love the movie, I REALLY do, but some of the issues stick out.

Part of me thought the engineers running down the hallway and into the room with the vases was that they KNEW they were infected so they were trying "contain" the spread of the goo's infection by putting themselves in a room that could house it safely via controlled atmosphere.

Probably wrong but who knows lol.

So true and it's the reason why I can enjoy watching films with my son. I was one of those who hated "The Phantom Menace", but when my son was 5 or 6 years old, he wanted to be Anikan, he wanted to be in a Pod Race, so that type of joy I witnessed allowed me to appreciate the film for what it was.

There are times where we have to leave our brains at the door, but leave Siskel and Ebert behind along with it.

that's usually true for movies that obviously are mean't to entertain and not take themselves too seriously. Prometheus was a movie that took itself seriously and was meant to have us "think"....only problem is that when you start THINKING about this film it all falls to sh!t

Myself and a group of friends went to see The Dark Knight Rises midnight showing and there were a couple of teen girls sitting in front of us talking/texting and appeared to have zero interest in the film, like their boyfriends dragged them there er something. So my buddy leans in, taps one on the shouler and says "movie is starting...if those phones stay lit up past the opening credits I'll have you ushered outta here, enjoy the movie ladies". Couldnt help but laugh

Very true. Sometimes I just liked to be entertained. Prometheus made me think AND it was fun. I think the second time I enjoyed it more.

Prometheus home video sales reached #1; outsold the #2 entry 3 to 1:

Also, 71% of Prometheus physical copy sales were Blu-ray:

I have a lot of time invested in "Alien" because of the fact that it's the only film to this day (I'm 37) that can still scare the crap out of me.

The scene with Fifield in that "Crab" position, when I saw this in the theaters, I immediately thought of the cut footage from Alien where the Xenomorph is sitting in a similar position. That one scene, funny or creepy as it looks, struck a nerve in my head. I finally understood the terror Lambert had and why she could not run away. I honestly believe if I were in her position, I'd be dead as well.

i've watched this movie twice now this weekend, and maybe i need to quit drinking so much while i'm watching movies because i thought it was awesome both times... then again, i'm not trying to "understand" the movie on some pseudo-intellectual level, i'm just trying to enjoy it... next time i sober up i'll be sure to check out the documentary.

One thing about this movie that irks me is that there is no set up for a sequel. But I still hope a sequel can be made because I feel the are too many unresolved issues.

Meh...this is science fiction, not science. You could literally pick apart any sci-fi/fantasy film in much the same fashion. Several of the IMDb poster's arguments could be leveled at other films in the Alien franchise, or any space fantasy flick for that matter. Observations such as mastering gravity on a spaceship or hearing engines roaring through space are scenarios present in much of science fiction, including the Alien franchise. Either you choose to accept the world that's presented to you in these films and just go with it, or you don't. Is Prometheus a perfect film? No, it isn't. But neither are most films for that matter. It doesn't make the film any less enjoyable. If Star Wars were released today, it probably would undergo just as much scrutiny...oh wait, it did. It's called The Phantom Menace

So do people either "get" this film or "not get" it? Perhaps there's a small degree of truth to that, but if we were to be more honest with ourselves, I think the reason that this film is being held under the proverbial microscope is because it's part of the universe of a beloved franchise. I think expectations were unreasonably high based on Ridley's long-awaited return to the genre, and many out there already had preconceived notions about the direction this film should've taken, rather than walk into it and take the ride that was presented to them with an open mind. Many wanted another Aliens...others still wanted a direct prequel that segued right into the first film. Had Ridley attempted either of these paths, I think the results would have been less successful. Either the film would've been a retread of what came before it, or there wouldn't have been any elements of mystery or surprise left because Ridley would've been too busy connecting all the dots to the first film. I'm personally thrilled with the film we got and can't wait to see where Ridley takes us next. End rant

Huh? There's a sequel planned entitled Paradise. I'm assuming it will go to the engineers home world.
