I agree, but people have a right to voice their disappointment if something pulled them out of a story they otherwise might have liked.

I was never pulled out of the story at any moment. I saw the flaws, but my mind was enjoying the movie too much to care.

Other than the fact that the film is set on LV-223, not LV-426, and that they should have ran to the side, I can't see any flaws with it. Milburn petting the Hammerpede, while foolish on face value, is just part of the genre. People in science fiction and horror make foolish decisions all the time.

Wrong.
Once you have something explained to you, it does in fact go away.
Since it went over your head to begin with and you need everything explained in exposition (christopher nolan)

Yes, to a certain degree you are correct, characters in horror often do dumb things, but I think the genre has matured enough that audiences now demand more. And Prometheus is more like dark sci-fi than a full-blooded horror film. It's kinda like Silence of the Lambs or Seven, where the emphasis is thriller and detective story with some horror being a part of the narrative. Jaws is the same way: Thriller/adventure with a strong horror vibe.

But again, nothing in the movie really bothers me. Nothing makes me cringe and want to turn off my player. I've seen the film about six times now, and I still love it.

Bring on the sequel!

Wile E. Coyote never learnt to run to the side either. Or am I thinking of the Sylvester the Cat? Anyway whichever one it was they were not big lateral thinkers....

Maybe there will be a post-modernist science-fiction movement where characters talk about not doing something stupid but still get killed after doing stupid things. Then other characters can say 'that was pretty stupid....' before getting killed by looking for their cat in a thermal exhaust port.

The JAWS wouldn't have characters to go out into the sharks playground, they'd take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Or a bigger boat, they could have used a bigger boat.

Yes, that's why people out-grow cartoons and stop watching them.

It has...? They do...? Didn't you see The Cabin In The Woods? Didn't it teach us that audiences today still demand that characters in horror movies do dumb things?

Just finished watching the blu, and it is absolutely gorgeous. I must admit I was disappointed the first time I saw this in theaters. It may have been my own fault for my disappointment as my expectations were through the roof. I still enjoyed the movie enough to buy it, and I enjoyed it even more upon my second viewing this evening.

As for the whole people doing dumb things in horror, I doubt this is what the writers were aiming for, but people do dumb things every day. Even highly intellectual people do dumb things. Highly trained professionals can lose their sense of logic in a highly stressed situation. Once again, I'm not assuming this is what the writers were going for, nor am I defending a character's action or actions. And I'm not defending horror films in general, as some films take it to a whole other level where it really leaves you with your head scratching. But obviously this is all subjective, as people will react differently to it than others.

As for the story itself there were a few flaws I found a bit distracting. I felt the dialogue could have used some tweaking, and a few of the plot twists almost took me out of the story on my initial viewing. For instance,
[Show spoiler]when Vickers reveals that Weyland is her father, did we really need the dramatic pause and the shocking music cue? It wasn't that big of a surprise, was it?

Overall I thought this was a good movie that had the potential to be great, but in the end it just didn't get there. I enjoyed it even more after my second viewing tonight, and I know I will definitely watch it again in the future.

Yeah, that was not a surprise to me. It was sooooo overly telegraphed throughout the entire movie.

I guess I didn't catch in the theater that the space cobra healed itself in just a couple of seconds after the geologist cut part of it off.

I must say... that part actually got a bit of a laugh from my friend and I when we saw it in theaters.

Just watched it yesterday with my wife and were totally amazed with the visuals as they were just stunning. We both weren't into the story though. It's almost as if we could care less and I can't really understand why. Maybe we were hoping for more of an adventurous side where they would explore the outside part of the planet but instead what we got was most of the movie being played out in the ship or cave. Not to complain though as it was supposed to be a prequel to Alien.

Ridley Scott has so much creative imagination and skills that I would love to see him make a movie about people exploring other planets without the horror factor. With the type of visuals in Prometheus, he could set the bar so high that others may never come close anymore.

Um, buddy? These characters are mostly super-smart scientists, engineers, doctors, etc. They're not idiots, so when they do stupid things, the writers and the director failed.

So they have to be perfect and flawless characters? What good would that do for the movie?

I know a few doctors who are dumb and don't know anything about some illnesses, so they prescribe wrong meds.

Go ahead and generalize that people like doctors are all-knowing and are never wrong.

I'm glad you didn't work on Prometheus. It would be so boring with your smart and perfect scientists.

Doctors aren't all-knowing, but just because they aren't aware of some illnesses (out of millions of diseases) doesn't make them dumb. You're the one who generalized!
