Yes. I understand your point of view. For me, the more detail, trivia, speculation, the better. If all the answers were included in the movie it would have been 8 hours long. I would have been o.k. with that.

Actually, there are more answers in the film than most people realize, and I'm not talking about speculation, either. Prometheus is similar to Akira, in that neither of them make complete sense on your first viewing; it takes multiple trips to connect more and more of the dots.

Granted though, even with that there are still a lot of unanswered things that are fun to speculate on, and a few dumb things which tarnish an otherwise awesome film.

For someone who obviously does not like this film, I'm surprised you're still posting on this topic. With regards to the black goo, I thought it's effect on different species was pretty clear in the film, so I wouldn't go so far as to say some explanations are "reaching" or examples of bad writing.

.
I have a question if you guys could answer for me please.

[Show spoiler]
Near the end Shaw deduces that the Engineers now want to destroy life on Earth. How does she come to that conclusion? I apparently missed that part both times that I watched it.

List the dumb things that still exist for you after reading the many explanations offered on this forum and others.

I hope they just underestimated demand and there is not a problem with some disc in the collection.

Ahhh...

[Show spoiler]OK, that part went over my head or I did not make note of it.

So David learned of this during the star map sequence when he was holding Earth in his hand.

I was just too busy enjoying the spectacular visuals of that scene to realize that.

Thank you very much.

Another cool thing I just noticed when I watched this again last night...
[Show spoiler]when the Engineer is taking off in the Juggernaut he turns on the starfield map again, and if you look closely, you'll see a line plotting a course that intersects with Earth. It only took me watching this 5 times to notice

I bought the disc for the extras only.. the 4 hour doc is pretty good.

And yes, I thought the film was the biggest blunder of the year, in regards to its potential vs it's outcome. I'm glad some people dig it though.

In regards to the black goo's effect on different species being "pretty clear"... yeah, disagree. The engineers and humans were the same species sharing exactly the same DNA, yet some are chest-bursted, some turn into zombies, and a worm goes into one guy's mouth yet nothing else happens except that he dies. That's all pretty different stuff in my mind, with no explanation why.

And I would totally go so far as to say that it's a result of bad writing. Many, many other films seem to be able to explain intricacies of what's happening, so I fault the writers and Ridley for either trying to be too obtuse or just dropping the ball.

Yea, I am having a somewhat similar problem as I had with 2001: A Space Odyssey. Being caught up in it's spectacular visuals the first few times watching it and missing important bits of information because I am distracted by them.
