Another unrelated subject. I just rewatched the post production segment of The Furious Gods. It covers the final editing with Pietro Scalia and Ridley Scott. A year or two ago Richard Harris had metioned that final editing for BDs was done using a 40" monitor. Prometheus was edited on a 60" 3D Panasonic. Perhaps this is the new norm?

The only issue I had with Prometheus was the editing. It seemed too abrupt in some of the transitions from scene to scene. From an artistic standpoint, the problem was getting the film to come in at two hours in order to maximize boxoffice. Both Ridley and Fox wanted this. I think they would have been better off with a 2 hr 15 minute final cut.
Watched for the first time since it was in theaters, and I couldn't agree more. It just seemed like cutting a half-second later would've helped out a lot especially during the first half.

I'll have to watch the deleted scenes again, but I don't think anything was needed besides the extended engineer tension piece at the end, just goes to quickly otherwise.

I actually liked the pacing. Much longer and it might have dragged a bit. Im sure a few of the alternate scenes are cool but the current edit seems solid, IMO.

Not saying shes an android but her being in cryo-sleep would mean nothing even if she was an android.
[Show spoiler]Why did David wear a helmet?...he explained why but he didn't HAVE to wear one
but more importantly, don't forget that in Alien...Ash was in cryo-sleep with everyone else.

My making mention of Vickers being an android was just having fun. I didnt mean to make it seem like its something that would actually happen in the next film, it WOULD BE quite the shock for Ridley to throw us that curve ball but I would like
[Show spoiler]Therons character to come back
in some shape or form. An android version of her open up a ton of possibilities IMO.

EDIT: Bah!...almost forget those Spoila tags

I dont know about Vickers character - I feel she was sort of wasted and just ends up out of the picture anyways. We'll see what they do but I wouldnt count on her having any cameos in the future films.

Ash was in hypersleep too (to throw the crew and the audience off).

They can still change things with her if they have any desire to do so. Her time in the actual film is still ambiguous enough that they could play with the character more.

Vickers served her purpose but I agree the character felt a bit wasted. I'm just having fun with the idea of her coming back some how.

I really hope the Rifftrax people eventually do a commentary for this.

There is another reason why I think Theron will be back in some form in the Paradise sequel. She was originally cast by Ridley as Shaw, but had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. When the conflict was resolved, after Noomi was cast, Theron was in as Vickers and she and Ridley expanded her part. Scott and Theron want to work with each other, lets hope they find away to do it on the next one. I could envision some kind of conflict between David 8 and Evelyn 9 for example. Evelyn representing the Evil Empire of Weyland Corp and the 'free' David 8 defending Shaw.

Weyland Corp, investigating the aftermath of the Prometheus Mission on LV-223, discovers and mans one of the other Juggernauts (There were 4 of them when Prometheus arrrived on LV-223). They head for the Engineer home planet, not to find out why the Engineers want to destroy life on Earth, but to annhilate them with their own ampules.

Wait, you mean LV-223 right?

With both Weyland and Vickers dead, who will emerge from the board of directors to control the company? Will they send a followup mission to LV-223? The company has acquired the Engineers manual and they have other FTL ships. Perhaps a Meredith 8 is aboard on the followup mission to LV-223.
I'd be up for that.

I thought her character was a little underutilzed as well, and what we did get wasn't always great. That scene where
[Show spoiler]the audience "learns" that Weyland is her father
? Simply dreadful. That being said, she wouldn't be unwelcome in 2 Pro 2 Metheus.

I watched the deleted scenes, but I must have missed why they replaced the alien-looking zombie geologist with the retarded-looking zombie geologist. Is there an explanation? I thought the (deleted) alien-looking version was pretty cool.

While the quick pacing is appreciated, I often fail to see why all summer blockbusters have to be two plus hours now, there are times in Prometheus where you just adjust to the current scene and are immediately whipped to another location.

For the complete story on Fifield design and Scott's decision to use the actor rather than CGI, pop in the Special Features disc (I'm assuming you have the Collector's Edition), Go to The Furious Gods, Demons in the Dark, 0:09:15. Be sure to click on the triggers in this segment to get the full story.

If you don't have the Special Features disc, and for those who don't believe the end product of the goo morphing will result in a Deacon or xenomorph, here is the text preface from the first trigger after 0:09:15:

[Show spoiler]"Mutations: Holloway & Fifield

As the Engineer's genetic substance causes worms to metamorphosize into deadly Hammerpedes, so too does this material mutatate other lifeforms, including two key members of the Prometheus crew. While Charlie Holloway's transformation is cut mercifully short, Fifield isn't so lucky. But it could have been much worse. Ridley Scott originally planned for Fifield's mutation to alter his appearance into a far more alien form, as if he would eventually become something possibly resembling the original Alien seen in the original film. In this section, note the elongated head, extended limbs and detached jaw - elements similar to the adult alien seen in the original film. Scott loved the "Babyhead" version of mutated Fifield but ultimately decided to go with a more grounded look. A version of the "Fifield Attacks" scene in which the doomed geologist's transformation is shown in a more advanced state was nearly included in the finished film and is available in the Deleted & Alternate Scenes section."

While Scott liked the CG rendition, he felt that portraying the real actor playing his role was more important. While I can see where he's coming from, I still think the CG Fiefield would have a much better choice.

I hear ya - some of my favorite films are longer and scenes are held for much longer and I love it. I didnt experience too much of a problem in Prometheus but I can see your point.

Theaters hate long movies...they HATE them for obvious reasons.

We're lucky they don't charge us by the minute. Imagine how much Avatar and Titanic would have grossed if they did!
