Have you heard anything firm on a Steelbook release?

just saw (I believe) the end of this at a theater. I was going to see the midnight screening of Thats My Boy and they hadn't decided where they wanted to put it yet. So they told us we could watch this while we waited.
This will be a day 1 blind buy for me, based on what we saw. it looked great.

[Show spoiler]I can't think of one scientist that if on an alien world would approach an alien creature and try to pet it and call it names like "hey beautiful"...I don't care how much beer pong they played or how many bong hits they took in college, they didnt drink beer and smoke a J before going on the mission did they? (actually...what was Fifield smoking in his helmet?...well HE may be have been stoned, would explain why he went from nuts to chill)...you would think they did but they didn't. Its not about being "overly cautious" as much as it is at least showing SOME form of caution when approaching something above and beyond your understanding and Milburn did not...at all.

Now I've no doubts that scientists can be "laid back dudes/dudettes" but when its time to work, you express caution and respect for your craft...period. How can THAT be argued? Especially given the expensive high profile nature of this mission.

So if you find that totally believable then I find it totally believable they hired the cheapest, dumbest crew they could find.
Milburn is obviously a snake freak. Not sure why, but lots of biologists are. A quick peek at the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet will showcase professional biologists, who absolutely respect their science and the study of life, geeking out upon seeing one of the most venomous snakes on the face of the earth. Naturally, they just have to corner it, pick it up, and handle it. And they're not wearing helmets and spacesuits, either. Usually, they're wearing t-shirts and khaki shorts. haha

And that's how they react to known species. Can you imagine the scientific thrill of finding a living species on another planet? A species entirely unknown to humankind? Any biologist worth his salt would want to interact with that. Milburn assumes that it's a snake for the same reason everyone on the internet keeps calling it a snake...because it looks and (at least at first) behaves like one. So he treats it like a snake...and that's his downfall. Is his behavior risky to the point of being foolish? Yes. But a large portion of human knowledge - especially with regard to the natural sciences - was gained through a process of very smart people doing seemingly foolish things.

Best Sci-Fi flick I've seen since District 9. I guess that places me squarely in the camp of those who loved it. Pre-order placed...now to hurry up and wait

Me too hopefully Fox does not down mix it like they have done with others like Chroniclea of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Trader

Wow-what a letdown. I kept waiting for the film to pick up and ahem, 'get good,' but then I realized, this is as good as it gets.

The sfx are surprisingly cheap looking at times too. The film is incredibly derivative and repetitive and often simply incoherent.

Anyone think there is a chance of a 7.1 channel sound track with this release?

I think so. Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs was released by Fox as well, in 3D also, and with a similar blu ray package (as compared with Prometheus') which does include a 7.1 mix

Yeah I know Prometheus played in some theaters with a 7.1 Dolby soundtrack. Avatar however was a Fox release with 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio release. Here is to hoping.

[Show spoiler]Alien is prominently displayed in that clip, you've saved me some cash. I don't care at all for the Space Jockey being ret-conned into Elders; he was a fossil in Alien, and not a fossil in a exo-suit. If that thing in the clip's the closest Prometheus takes me to Alien, I'll pass.
It should never have been marketed as part of the Alien universe, IMNSHO.

You've saved me $8 + popcorn. Thanks again!

Saw this in 2D and 3D and I still want more. Can't wait to own this on blu-ray. It will take a long time for me to forget this one.

I am probably not going to be able to get to the theater to see this one, but I know I'll enjoy it. I put in my pre-order in for it.

Well, I agree that it shouldn't be marketed as part of the Alien Universe...since it's better than 83% of the films in that universe.

Watched this here (in Singapore) in the cinema on a 2D digital projection with 7.1 sound

And just to be clear, however average this film is with ludicrous plot holes, banal and unengaging characters and general lack of attention to story detail, this is going to be a second-one-day-one purchase

Yeah I read in an article (https://www.editorsguild.com/FromThe...TheGuildid=314) and watched a video in which they interviewed the people who worked for the sound of Prometheus and they said they mixed it in 7.1, so that is the original, intended mix. I wonder if Avatar had an original 7.1 mix as well and Fox down-mixed it for blu ray like they did for Chronicles of Narnia 3, or if it has been 5.1 from the time it was mixed. There is hope though since Ice Age 3 does have a 7.1 track in a package that will be identical to Prometheus' (Blu ray 3D, Blu ray, DVD, and Digital Copy), but then again, Chronicles of Narnia 3 has the same package and it was down-mixed from its intended 7.1 mix to 5.1 for unknown reasons (or at least, unknown to me), plus they were released (3D combo versions) the exact same day so I don't think time was a factor in this.

After seeing Prometheus, the list looks like this:

Alien 10+++/10
Prometheus 9/10
Alien 3 6½/10
Aliens 5½/10
Alien Resurrection 5/10
