Philosopher Samuel Taylor Coleridge suggested that if a writer could infuse a "human interest and a semblance of truth" into a fantastic tale, the reader would suspend judgment concerning the implausibility of the narrative.

Many have argued, that it is a "plothole", that they take of their helmets on the planet.

Sci-fi like Prometheus, rests on conditions about the state of knowledge and science in the future.

1) Space travel
2) Computer technology
3) Robotics
4) Methods of resolving age

It is not a plot hole, taking a helmet of. It is suspension of disbelief on the viewers side, to accept that the movie states visually, that a computer gives an OK sign to take of the helmet, thus having screened the atmosphere beforehand. Holloway on his way to take of his helmet BEFORE the computer has given this, states something about Holloway as a human.

Factuality errors will occur though, just try to read about 2001 A Space Odyssey om moviemistakes.com, even though Kubrick was very keen on making everything as correct as possible, with the help of NASA. That didn't stop the movie from becoming the mother of all sci-fi though.

Prometheus has a lot of statements pertaining to science and knowledge in the future and if the viewer insists on compromising this, due to state of the art and knowledge in 2012, then it is the viewers disabilty to provide suspension of disbelief that provides a lot of the "plotholes" and "implausability".

I had a few grudges regarding the narrative and some actors, but I had absolutely no problem about the use of sci-fi in the movie.
Actually, very little in that "honest" trailer has nothing to do with suspension of disbelief. They are all pretty legitimate holes in the writing.

I find it funny when people try to like a movie so much they create answers and justifications to make their experience "work" better. My good friend did exactly that with this film, because he wanted to love it so much, and didn't.

3D Version @ BB for me.

Yea, BB with U/S: $19.99
The Target one: $27.99

I'll use my $20 RZ & U/S, making it free, tho I may have to buy a Soda or box of candy since it's $.01 below $20.

Don't forget you can use a DVD to get another $5 coupon.
So that will drop the price to $14.99.

I've settled on the Target edition. That slipbox is simply more appropriate for such a jam packed release, imo. Can't wait for tomorrow morning.

Hey Casey, maybe you can ask, in a general sense, how this documentary stacks up with what he's done in the past....like how interesting was it to talk with Sir Ridley in where he's gone with Prometheus and, if he's done other documentaries from Sir Ridley, how this one compares to the other documentaries...
I hope I'm clear as mud on this one!

I'm seeing alot of this as well. I know several people (in person and on this forum) that claim to not see or just don't care about the lapses in basic logic or inconsistencies in character behavior. It's just like the behavior of fans of the Star Wars prequels. Some are blind to it, some just don't care. Others like me can't get over the fact that Vickers can't just run perpendicular to something thats
[Show spoiler]about to crush her
, why a biologist is scared of a corpse but not afraid of an alien that resembles a cobra and is acting like it wants to attack him, or why a geologist with mapping gizmos and GPS could ever get lost in the very tunnels he's mapping.

I can't convince myself to get the Target version. I'd rather use that $8 towards the actual "Art of" book.

As far as leaps of logic go, I don't see why this film gets picked apart so much when there's plenty of other films that suffer such instances of logic gaps, and don't get nearly so much grief.

Problem is, people these days love all facts and questions answered. This movie didn't provide that, and as a result, some people hated it. I loved the fact that I thought about this long after I saw it and the fact that there's a sequel on the way made it even better. There's rarely a movie that doesn't have plot holes. I take a movie for what it's worth and don't analyze someone being scared or not scared of the unknown. Perhaps he waited his whole life and he was ready to embrace it? Who knows. The beauty is all in the interpretation. Plot holes or not, I was entertained.

I enjoyed this movie despite its flaws in character logic. As for the unanswered questions, I happen to like movies that make me think, although the 'directing humanity to a bomber base' bit is quite dumb no matter how you look at it. The sequel is going to have to give me a reasonable answer for THAT one.
