I do not have a 3d tv.
Take a DVD to Best Buy for a $5 off coupon and get the 2D version for $14.99.

The failures of the Star Wars prequels taught me a lot about going in too excited, although I still don't like those particular movies even after the smoke has all cleared.

I go in on an even keel with an open mind now, and take the movies for what they are, not what I built them up to be in my mind. It makes moviegoing that much more pleasurable (well, at least when the movie isn't a total stinker anyway).
I read every negative review I can get my hands on and devour them. Then when I see the movie, it's nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be.

P.S. On other subject, does anyone know what Walmart will be charging for the 3D 4 disc set? Will it be priced differently than onlilne?

That worm looking thing was definitely acting like a cobra, making a defensive display of aggression. No one in their right mind would try to touch that thing. Especially someone that's already scared shitless. When it comes to Vickers, it is pretty clear she's running in a straight line under what's
[Show spoiler]about to crush and kill her
. Even under panic, a person with her level of intelligence would have realized that running perpendicular to the thing that's
[Show spoiler]about to crush her
would have easily
[Show spoiler]saved her life
. Debris falling or not, she stood a better chance not running in a straight line. And Fifield and Millburn had their exact coordinates on the computers on their arm. And still got lost. Yeah.
This could've been the crowning achievement of his biological career. I think it was more intrigue than anything. As far as the computers thing goes, someone made a good point referencing a gps. Technology falters sometimes. As far as Vickers, I'll have to rewatch the scene. I don't remember specifically how and where she ran. I see your points on all these things but to me they weren't a deal breaker and could be explained. This also doesn't translate to me ever taking my helmet off and touching an alien life form!

Yeah, that's the thing for me as well. The logic issues were not deal-breakers for me either. They marred an otherwise awesome film!

I think for me the problem is that they marred what COULD HAVE BEEN an awesome film for me. I don't mind not getting answers in the first film of a potential series (I watched every season of Lost and loved it). I do mind lazy writing and/or lazy directing. It seems like most if not all of the nonsensical character decisions were made just out of convenience to move the plot along. And that hurts. I don't WANT to not enjoy this film. I saw it multiple times in an effort to try to like it. I just couldn't overlook the poor decision making character-wise.

Interestingly enough, listening to the 35mm Heroes podcast talk about the 3.5 hour doc on the 3D set bonus disc and the commentaries, it turns out that the whole Vickers running in a straight line thing was actually Scott's idea and wasn't in the script. That is MIND BOGGLING.

Well, Scott has always been a seat-of-his-pants kind of director, going on his artistic intuition at times. Just listen to his commentaries. He often puts in things at the last second because, "why not, I thought it worked and I don't give a damn what the studio thought." So this is just a case of one bad choice out of how many good ones he made in other films? We all do it, but yes, it's still disappointing.

I just got this in.

What's the order I should watch this in with the Alien films?

Prometheus / Alien / Aliens / Alien 3 / Alien Resurrection?

Walmart's website shows $29.99, and they usually go at that price, but I've been surprised when it was at $24.99, but if you have an ad, or download the Best Buy ad, you can always price match!

In chronological order, yes. But bear in mind there are missing links between Prometheus and Alien, due to it being the first of a new series.

Typical, I bought the 3D Steelbook, patiently await it to arrive. Carefully unpack and slip 3D copy into Blu Ray player. Make myself a cup of tea, relax, put on 3D glasses. Low and behold the battery is flat, I have no spare and my baby daughter is asleep so I'm not dragging her to a supermarket to get some batteries. Wife is at work as well

Should have checked this before

Is it worth it ignoring the 3D and just pop in the 2D version or will I miss out on a first time experience on par with Avatar?

Bear in mind this is my first viewing so hoping to make it perfect (3D, no disturbances from family etc....

You know what is full of plot holes and logical fallacies? Real life. History is full of smart, well trained people doing dumb and outta character things, from our current economical situation, to the Vietnam War to countries invading Russia before the winter. Heck there's no way the Exxon Valdez spill could have happen except for the fact that it did.

I'd wait. I'm not a huge 3d fan, but in this case I thought it was great.

Yep, I decided to wait. Ordered some batteries on ebay so hope they get here quickly.

Annoyingly the batteries managed to get me through the travesties of Immortals and Transformers Dark Of The Moon last week!

In Timeline order... Prometheus, Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and AR.

Just note that there is a gap in between Prometheus and Alien that hasn't been filled yet.

I would wait. But, after seeing the Avatar trailer in 3D, I have to say the 3D effect in Avatar is stronger than in Prometheus so if you have seen Avatar in 3D, dont get your hopes up. The 3D is still great in Prometheus though, dont get me wrong...its just more subtle, which is cool too.

I'd personally recommend skipping Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, but you should watch them in release order.

Alien
Aliens
Alien 3
Alien Resurrection
Prometheus
