That's partially because Avatar has a significant part of its formula "borrowed" directly from Aliens:

- cryogenic sleeping during space travel
- smarmy corporate "bad" guy who is working in his own self-interest
- mouthy, cocky, unlikable space marines battling alien creatures
- walking humanoid mechanical load lifters/war machines fighting in final climactic battle

Aliens was fresh at the time, but I think it seems dated and predictable today because we have been spoiled by so many similar themes in other movies, comics, and video games since then.

And Prometheus had loads of the plot lifted from AVP...

Nope, not joking

Saw it, liked it.

The characters did seem pretty weak though, I didn't really feel anything for them other than David maybe.

Day 1 pickup for me. Saw this 3 times in theaters so far. Really enjoyed it and loved the 3D. Hopefully I have a 3DTV by the time this is released.

Well, that depends where you live, doesn't it? It opened May 31st here, and the first limited screenings were over a month ago. It's only playing in a handful of cinemas all over the country now.

Avatar and Aliens are extremely '80s? Or Alien and Aliens?

"No problemo" yeesh...John Connor and his slang... Love T2 but man, what an annoying kid (a lot of it is thanks to his dialogue). Nice Bad Boy Bubby avatar

Good points, although a lot of it is dated just because of how '80s it is (slang, haircuts, wardrobe).

It sounds like if there is enough demand and the studio wants an extended cut of Prometheus then we will get one. I'm pretty sure it will be a better version.

I found it interesting that Ridley said that he was wrong to not go with the extended cut of Kingdom of Heaven originally in theatres, because I think he has made a similar mistake with Prometheus.

An extended cut will be a puchase from me.

P of course, I only make "ABC" exceptions when movies are extremely close alphabetically anyway.

im glad i saw it knowing there was an aliens connection and thats it, i did not read one post or one review on this, saw it last saturday and was blown away.

the sound was amazing, the PQ was iincredible, . if u can see this in imax 3D.

i have a feeling this movie will be discussed for many yrs to come. not unlike blade runner.

there are more questions than answers and that leaves things open to an individual interpretation.
