I wonder if it's just because it's essentially a 4-color (black/blue/green/white) plus silver foil print job. Originally I kind of hoped it would be a 3D lenticular. Oh well, no other way to get that bonus disc!

And what's really funny is that in a few weeks, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is being released on both 2D and 3D. And I bet both have the same features. Why couldn't Fox do that for Prometheus?
I doubt AL VH has the same degree of special features as Prometheus .

This is nothing compared to how Paramount screwed people on the 2D Transformers blu-ray last year, but this is up there.

Stop boning the people who like or only can afford the 2D. Let each version have the equal amount of features. Buena Vista did that with The Avengers, with the exception of the DC.
Be happy that we got such an extensive amount of features for such a beautiful film. If one has to pay just 4$ more for it, then so be it.
Avengers? Seriously? There are virtually no special features on the disc, be it 2D or 3D. I'm thankful Prometheus didn't get the same treatment. Think of it as paying a little more for the bonus disc rather than paying for the 3D disc, like back in the old days with DVD 'collector's editions'.
In fact, this blu-ray calling itself a 'collector's edition' with an amaray case brings back those memories of the DVD days. Prometheus has officially gone old school in every sense of the word

I was going to buy the 3D set for the bonus documentary disc. I really want to see that! But I don't really care to see the film again, not since reading that it won't be the ~17 minute longer version that had been discussed. It seems like Scott was just being stubborn, refusing to listen to the criticism re: the need for a longer version.

It is tough to justify $25 for a documentary. Still thinking about it though.

So if I want the 3D and the most special features should I get the Best Buy or Target edition? I'm stuck!

They have the same content. The Target edition just has an ultra slim booklet with excerpts from the Art of Prometheus book.

So I just watched the movie for the first time after blind buying it, and wow. What a fun film to watch.

It really was a joy ride from beginning to end.

So glad to have it part of my collection. I will be watching it in 3D tomorrow, as well as diving into ET on blu ray

Did Casey B badly miss the real point of this movie in his review? Biggest clue missed: the name of the film. It can be watched as an extension of the Greek myth in which a titan steals fire from the Gods and creates humans. The Gods then sentenced Prometheus to an eternity of pain. This seems to be exactly what happened to the engineers in the film, for tinkering with life.

Casey claims that the film's writing needs to be tightened because some characters didn't behave in a believable way. But that was the whole point of the characters. The scientists who had no faith and rely only on empirical evidence behaved as little more than idiots. Meanwhile, the scientist who kept her faith survives, believing in divine purpose and an overarching creator. That is not a mistake of "bad writing". It is a comment on the human condition in which our quest for empirical knowledge ultimately guides us to destructive technologies antithetic to the act of creation. This theme was reinforced by the abortion scene--another defining sequence ignored in the review.

Oooh ok, thank you! I plan on buying that book eventually anyway so I guess I'll get it at Best Buy (especially since upgrade and save is going on right now..)

isn't the 30+ minutes of deleted scenes the same as what would have been included on an Extended Cut?

now there's a stretch... If the characters' behavior is unbelievable then it completely fails as any sort of comment on the "human condition", which pretty much by definition has to reflect some iota of actual human behavior.

Watched all the deleted scenes now. Im not convinced that most of them would add much to the film actually. The film could do with being longer though. The Janek/Vickers scene should definitely have been kept in though.

Im kind of doubting an extended version now based on these deleted scenes.

There's a lot in there for 78 mb. i only played with it for 10 minutes but there was heaps to look at. I suspect there will be a lot more once you sync up with the BD during playback. Looking forward to checking this out. Assuming it works that way of course. I couldnt even get the battleship 2nd screen app to work with any BD player.

I'm checking it out and indeed there is a lot of stuff. Most of the videos get downloaded as you play them. I wish there was an option included to allow you to download all the material beforehand like in the Avengers app.

that was so stupid how to redeem your iTunes DC you have to run the disk first and then use the code in the box and then get another code....so stupid...but at least we had a choice in DC or UV. UV still sucks. Okay, got the 4 disc 3D blu ray combo pack $24.99 at BB, had a mystery rewards certificate which turned out to be $5, then traded in an old DVD(Blue Crush) another $5, which brought my total for Prometheus has landed in my hands for $14.99 plus tax. I win.

I think of it like this. $14.99 for the regular 2D edition after the trade and save coupon combined with the extra bonus disc only on the 3D version for $3.50. Overall, that equates to a total of about $18.50, which is less than the 3D version for $24.99, unless you use the $5 trade & save coupon.
