Thumbs up Better after the 2nd viewing

I saw this in the theater over the summer. The theater's sound system had the music slightly louder than some of the dialogue. I knew I needed to see it again to fully absorb things. Yesterday I watched the 2D release on BD. The issues with dialogue were resolved on my home system. I was fully engaged and now feel that this film was a tremendous triumph from all angles.

I guess the only question I have are with regards to the motive behind David the robot "poisoning" Logan the anthropologist. Was he acting under orders from Weyland? Did he do this on his own and why?

Unlike many who want their films spoon fed to them and have ALL answers provided, I like the mystery of not knowing every detail. This is an alien planet of unknown origin, so everything the film's players see for the first time is what we witness as well. Great stuff.

Watched this last night. It was my 3rd time seeing and it was awesome getting in to this movie all over again. It still gets a 3.5/5 from me but I had more fun watching it this time...I spent less time thinking about and more just focusing on how fun the ride is.

Also, the 3D in this is damn near flawless! Amazing depth throughout, looks better at home too.

no exclusive in Clifton or Fairfield.

I'm returning the regular slipcase and keeping the slipbox.

Any chance that
[Show spoiler]Paradise could be planet Earth?

I was too busy the first time trying to formulate ideas.

I watched Prometheus twice in theaters back in June, but last night I really noticed how completely and utterly stupid Dr. Holloway was

That's what Transformers is for.

I think you'll like it. To me, the movie is good. Not great. PQ is outstanding though. I watched it the first time last night.

When he takes his helmet off, he mentions something along the lines of "don't be a skeptic, right?" The only thing I can think of is this mission being the crowning achievement of his research career. Maybe he feels that if he doesn't believe in these things (atmosphere, etc) it will all be for nothing? He acted very strangely, but if I had to guess, it was probably because this whole mission has and will define his life's work. You're right though, no way I'm taking my helmet off.

One of my guesses is that he wants to be like a God/engineer.
If you seen the David viral commercial, you see him painting a figurine/doll....I saw that as him wanting to be a creator too.
Its just one of my ideas so dont laugh!

Just posted this in the UK forum but thought you guys who don't venture there might be interested too - for those still wondering where the Chinese-whispered-about director's cut ended up:

Quote:
Ridley Scott Turned Down Prometheus Director's Cut

Ridley Scott turned down the opportunity to make a director's cut of Prometheus.

DVD and Blu-ray producer Charles de Lauzirika, who directed the epic 220-minute Making Of documentary The Furious Gods, confirmed to Digital Spy that Fox offered Scott the chance to re-cut the film for its home entertainment release.

"It was discussed quite a bit, the idea of an extended cut," de Lauzirika said. "But the theatrical cut is Ridley's director's cut."

"Fox very kindly offered him the opportunity to create a new cut of the film, and he said 'No, this is my cut, and I'll give you thirty-something minutes of deleted scenes on the side'.

"It was that simple, there was really no debate and no argument."

De Lauzirika went on to discuss the making of The Furious Gods, which he began collecting footage for more than a year before shooting on Prometheus began.

"It's very comprehensive and meaningful, and not just fluff," he commented, promising a "candid" look at the film's production.

"I've tried to be candid, to go into the problems and how they're overcome, and the creative clashes and how those are resolved. I find that to be the most fascinating part of filmmaking.

"These are very talented, headstrong, passionate people, everyone having their own particular vision for the film, all having to serve Ridley's vision.

"Fox didn't have me cut anything out. I was expecting this thing to be gutted, not because it's Fox or the material, but we do get into some honest topics. Right out of the gate, I think we have a very serious and candid documentary."

Talk about making an iconic character that doesn't require putting someone in an uncomfortable rubber suit...great marketing tool.

I see that the 4-disc 3D package has more extras than the regular blu package. But does these extras/commentaries/deleted scenes really *answer* questions one might have (when they saw it back then in theaters) as it is claimed at the back of the packaging?

From the review:

[Show spoiler]Those still disappointed by the "lack of answers" should be patient—a sequel is already in the works. Until then, we can all bide our time with this fantastic Blu- ray release—which features a stellar audio/video presentation—although I'd recommend avoiding the 2D-only edition and picking up the Prometheus 3D Blu-ray: 4-Disc Collector's Edition, which includes the 2D disc plus an exclusive bonus disc with a fantastic three-and-a-half hour making-of documentary. It's well worth a few extra bucks

Although that was incredibly stupid, the worst was how he reacted to being on that planet. This man is a scientist that is on a foreign planet. He finds a body, finds water, finds a ship, finds a mural, finds sophisticated machinery, but no one is alive to talk to, so BIG FAIL, right? CHRIST.

The Target exclusive comes with an art booklet and is housed in a slipbox.

And the fact that he sees a foreign object moving around in his eyeball and he tells absolutely no one about it.

One of the silliest things in the film.
