But for me, the film's flaws do not outweigh its strengths. I chuckle at the stupidity of the biologist running from a dead alien specimen but sticking his face in what is clearly an animal displaying hostile intentions. It's dumb, but it doesn't do enough damage to make me hate the film.
I agree with this! It's those moments and decisions that I just don't understand, and take fault in the film for. Like how there's no
[Show spoiler]"hey guys, no big deal, but I just gave birth to an alien"
scene...and it's conveniently forgotten about (although I feel like I'm missing something there...seriously, am I missing something?, because I find it incredibly awkward).

Kane wasn't a scientist, though. He was a space trucker, an officer for the company. It's easier to buy that he'd do something unscientific. It's also worth mentioning that the crew was coerced into exploring the ship, completely unprepared, by being told it's a distress beacon, and that they'd sacrifice their share. They know it's a bad idea, they know it's dangerous, they just don't know how dangerous, and they pay the price for it. It's much different than Prometheus.

I do wonder why
[Show spoiler]the goo affected some people differently. Why did the engineer dissolve and it took Holloway 10-12 hours to die? Was it the amount of goo ingested? Watching the second time, I also wondered if Paradise could actually be earth?

Prometheus was a blind buy for me. Well worth the $14.99 (BB via upgrade and save)! It dragged a bit in the middle and the plot took a turn I wasn't expecting, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It gets a Booth Bijou rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

did not want any personality on his ship that was a superior force to his own. He only needed scietists for basic purposes, as his goal was never exploration and discovery, but for contact to feed his own ends. Shaw was the only force that ended up putting a kink in his plans.

Think about it. Had that been a real scientific expedition, the crew would have been triple in size. You don't want one biologist for a alien contact mission, you want a lab full of them.
I think that the writers, and Ridley, could have really focused on this, that Weyland's hubris and his picking of a poor, skeletal crew really screwed everything up. But then, the film would have had to be restructured to focus more on Weyland. I think you're right, I think this is part of what they were going for, I guess, it's just buried in the muddled structure of the film.

Poor Holloway... Gone with the Goo.

Can't comment about Paradise... but Vegas is close by.

Sorry about the bad jokes.

[Show spoiler]if you're a pregnant woman (and especially if you know you're having a c-section), it's best you either turn away from the screen or flat-out don't watch the movie.
Since my wife at the time of the film's release was
[Show spoiler]one month away from a scheduled c-section,
I had to at least give her the heads up.

And man, she didn't even flinch. She said the scene was more clinical than disturbing. My wife is a total badass.

Recent official image released shows that ingesting the goo and inhaling the goo have different results. Ingesting will make your cells deteriorate (like the beginning engineer and holloway). Inhaling will mutate you and cause aggression, like Fifield and the worm.

This might explain why all the crew(particularly Milburn and Fifield) acted so stupid -

Im pretty sure they all inhaled it.

Actually, I think Milburn was behvaing that way to impress Fifield (read: showing off in order to make friends).

It's a VERY common trait for people to do things they wouldn't normally do to impress others.

It does, but some may say it should have been explained in the film(I dont know how though) or that its just a cover up attempt for the stupidity!
Personally, I like it.

Well true,
[Show spoiler]but Fifield freaked out about the first body they found and its not like he was alone at this point or trapped inside because of a storm. Now the whole "hologram" thing was a good reason to freak out, IMO, and maybe thats part of the reason he got so upset because up until that point everything about the temple seemed dead and lifeless with no indication of technology er anything...so for a bunch of hologram engineers to start running down a hallway like ghosts would probably give me the shakes as well
.

I think the the crew of the Prometheus "acted stupid" because they weren't trained properly for potentailly dangerous environments prior to going on the mission. It's plain to see they are in it for themselves...a dangerous line of thinking when facing hazardous situations. They had no clue what they were going into, they didn't stop and think things out and behaved poorly in dangerous situations.

Holloway wasn't going to die, he was being transformed, just like Fifield. Fifield took a large dose to his system when his helmet melted and fell into the pool of black goo. This is why you see him in a "Crab" stance at the door of the Prometheus. Holloway had a slower transformation.

For me this is a mystery because it's obvious what the engineer drank at the beginning of the film broke down his body to the molecular level, whereas the stuff found in the Ampules mutated a host's system. This is why I like the deleted scene between Janek and Vickors where he talks about a similar event in his career.
