There's nothing immature about saying that you don't like religious films.

What is immature about somebody stating he doesn't like religious films? It is no different than not liking horror films or banana ice cream.

I don't like religious films either(or religion in general) but, what's immature is that he wrote the film off without realizing that Prometheus is NOT a religious film.

That was a beast of a behind the scenes feature, well worth the extra price for the 3D version.

You should read what he quoted. Even if you don't agree what he quoted, he is going based off what somebody told him about the film, it doesn't make him imature to base his comment off somebody telling him that (which IMO definitely has a level of accuracy), see quote again:

Is it a full blown religious film like Passion of the Christ, of course not but certainly has themese.

No need -
[Show spoiler]Weyland
had his golden boy, the android, there. Everyone else was useless.

Easily worth the extra $5 for the 3d version. hell they throw in a 3d copy basically for free.

True, it is not directly stated. It is implied via the slightly heated argument/conversation between
[Show spoiler]Vickers and Weyland, when they're talking about the Board of Directors meetings and the objections to this mission that Weyland had to overcome
. Scott doesn't tend to go for the explicit, does he? He's always hoping the audience will connect the dots. Not just in this film, in general. Feels like he starts with a detailed, explicit story, and then trims and trims and trims, hoping the gist of it will be picked up on.

And it often isn't.

Guys, I love this movie just as much as you do, but all of these justifications are silly. Digging through blu-ray extras to make sense of everything is a piss-poor way of making up for this film's shortcomings.

Just call it for what it is and be done with it:
A good movie with some dumb parts.

To be fair, it actually made sense to me as to why they acted the way they did. Sure it had its faults but the goo "extra" makes sense when you look at it

This right here, yes. Enjoy the movie, but accept that the script was, in many ways, weak.

I'm sure Ridley originally said the same thing about Blade Runner, Alien, Gladiator, Robin Hood ........
Its weird how he's picky about which of his films gets the Director's Cut approval (Kingdom of Heaven).

Personally, I thought Gladiator should've gotten one as the Extended version is better than theatrical version. Some gaps are filled and there's more character development.

does anyone that has picked up the standard blu-ray+dvd+digital copy from target know if it came with art booklet or was that for the 3d version packaging?

Only the enlightened can truly get the majestic intricacies and depth of the Prometheus script, as written by the writer of Cowboys and Aliens and the terrible last season of Lost. Ridley can shoot a beautiful looking film, but that film can often turn out to be absolutely terrible, and in no way elegant and nuanced. How about A Good Year? Robin Hood? Hannibal?

So, you're saying that the plot of the movie is that Peter Weyland wants immortality, so he hires the stupidest crew he possibly can and keeps his trip completely secret from everyone. Well, that's a horrible plan, and yes, it does get everyone killed, but it also makes for a bad movie, because in this case, all of the characters are stupid, useless, and at worst, completely unlikable. So how is this better than the script to a teen slasher film again? Because it has characters parrot things like, "Where did we come from?" That's not enough to get me to invest in a meaningful way in any of the characters.

Remove the Deacon, and it makes the Holloway gets infected, Shaw gets pregnant and gives birth to the Trilobite, and Trilobite "mates" with Engineer subplot largely irrelevant. If you wanted them to go all out in connecting it to Alien, instead of the more subtle approach the film took, that's definitely your opinion to have. I, however, happened to love the film's approach, including that last shot.
Well said and I appreciate the discussion friend. I totally understand the theme you're referring to but my entire point is that it's too subtle. It's just not enough for me to just see this Deacon born when all is said and done. I'm glad it was enough for you but to me it felt like the biggest tease ever and not the payoff I feel was needed at that point. At least without it the film stands on its own without feeling like a cheap gag to link it with Alien. Going all the way with it though would make the film feel more complete. IN MY OPINION.
