Good point on the timing, if that were the case. I still maintain that the 2000-yr revelation was for those Engineers that included the severed head. There's no evidence to me that the Engineers meant to obliterate Earth 2000 years prior. If that were the case, why didn't they/he? In fact, I would argue that the Engineer in the pod is the one assigned to fly the ship (full of let's say biological weapons and ready to go) to destroy Earth once Earthlings did figure out how to get to that planet/outpost/threshold.

Yes, that's the sacrifice to create human life. Hence, you see the DNA start forming towards the end of that sequence. Also, a little while later, you see Shaw match the DNA of humans to that of the Engineer with a severed head.

How about any other features?

I am debating on whether or not to go right to them or the movie first. I feel like I need a refresher on the movie since its been 4+ months before I start delving into what it means.
Watch the movie first. I thought I was pretty fresh on it till I started watching again. It made the special features, deleted scenes, etc. much more interesting.

Yup. From Prometheus, you find out there are several ships. It's not hard to imagine a similar outbreak occurring elsewhere which resulted in the crashed ship from Alien. That, or it'll be fleshed out in the sequel.

I'm gad Prometheus didn't directly link it.

It would have turned out like The Thing prequel 2011

Watched it yesterday, it was a blind buy for me.

Absolutely loved it.

I laugh now at intellectual minds who walked out from the movie theater and went ""Prometheus" raised more questions than gave answers".

Wow, what's not to get? Seriously?

Yeah people talk about it like it was the latest episode of Lost. I thought it explained itself pretty well

The fly over earth in the beginning didn't show any signs of life at all. Probably some 3.0 billion years ago. They should have shown some volcanic activity or even some big impact craters. But yeah it was the origin of life. The "jumpstart". Scientists are still debating about what started it. Now we know

The Space Jockey from Alien is MUCH bigger than the Engineer's in Prometheus. Of course it might have just been hard to make an Engineer that big without CGI.

Is it me, or is the Engineer in Aliens quite a bit larger in size compared to the ones in Prometheus?

Not that it's a big deal..just kind of bugs me

On Tuesday I bought the 3D edition, and then today I went out and got the standard blu ray with the face cover. I couldn't help myself, that holographic look to it is too damn perfect. I had to have it.

I just got my copy from amazon.ca this morning. I'm happy to see all four discs stuffed into a regular-sized blu-ray case. I don't have the shelf space for some bloated "special edition" packaging.

The Blu-ray was originally slated to come out on 10-11-12, but was changed to 10-9-12. That's what the date represents.

I was under the impression that Tony Scott was diagnosed with brain cancer and decided he wanted to control how he left this world. Instead of suffering through treatment he chose to end his life under his own terms. RIP.

It bugs me a bit too. I wonder if the beings that made the engineers are actually the space jockeys. The engineers suits are made to look like their 'gods' or 'makers'. Maybe in the next film we'll see that. It would be dope for the next film to end with an actual 15 foot Space Jockey walking in and brushing an engineer aside like the engineer did at the end of Prometheus when Weyland's team was in the Juggernaut.

I would down with that. Having a humanoid being under the suit originally bothered me, but after watching the making of (which was amazing) I understand why they went that way. Since I first saw Alien I always wondered about the Space Jockey. I don't know if my disappointment was years of wondering or even from seeing the elephantine Space Jockeys in the early comics (I know that's not canon).

Agreed, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have the Space Jockey's be different beings from the Engineers.
