What if....

Engineers harvested eggs from the alien homeworld to take to their weapons facility moon to create the black goo. On route to their weapons facility one of the juggarnauts with eggs goes missing (Crashes on LV 426). They write it off as a lost ship. Before the engineer died he set off a warning/distress beacon. It was meant for OTHER engineers to find, but instead the crew of the Nostromo find it.

Meanwhile on their weapons base something goes wrong. Most of the engineers died. The last was in cryo sleeping until Weyland, David, & Shaw wake it up....

Thumbs up

Anybody watch that 28 minute youtube feature that someone posted back on page 203? Not too shabby in the "answer" department when it comes to questions that I've read over several posts.

I watched the movie when I got it on Tuesday and caught alotta stuff I missed the first time around. (Possibly because I saw it in 3-D IMAX and the spectacle of the thing was just blowing my mind up like an atomic bomb!) Yep. Very glad I got this mug! After seeing the Deleted Scenes, though, I wish they had went with the CG Fifeld. A more refined version of course. (I mean, I'm sure they hadn't finalized the one we saw since it wasn't going to be used.) The CG one was much more menacing, and the alien gene was plenty apparent. The one in the movie looked more like an extreme case of Ken Griffey, Jr.'s gigantism in "The Simpsons". I also woulda liked the quiet scene between Vickers and Janek. You could see that she was truly freaking out as she burned Halloway alive, and it woulda been really good to see how she continued to deal with doing such a thing. She definetly wouldn't have seemed as cold of a character had that been left in.

Oh, yeah! I quite enjoyed the 3.4 hour documentary. Haveta say that I was quite shocked when I noticed the length as I hit PLAY. I was hoping for at least an hour and a half. Maybe 2. But 3 hours and 40 minutes?! Completely worth the extra 5 bucks! (I know others have typed it, but it's soooooo true!!!!)

Pretty sure Scott is the king of such things. So....is Deckard a replicant or not?!

We already know there's a Blade Runner tie in: http://popwatch.ew.com/2012/10/09/pr...-ridley-scott/

Just how limited is the Target exlusive?

Would it run out if I get it next week?

That was sorely missed if you ask me. I wondered how in the hell the Captain just suddenly decide that LV-223 is a military installation complete with biological weapons and bombers.

I definitely want to watch this. I think it's really cool that it takes place in the same universe as the Alien films, but earlier in time.

I love crossovers like these! Like when Lucas used E.T.'s race in the Star Wars movies.

He was a Nexus 6:

The subject then switched to Blade Runner, which Scott has also been very vocal about sequelizing as well. He said: "It’s not a rumour – it’s happening. With Harrison Ford? I don’t know yet. Is he too old? Well, he was a Nexus-6 so we don’t know how long he can live [laughs]. And that’s all I’m going to say at this stage."

I still don't see why so many people are hung up on the Engineers-as-peace-lovers thing (whether there might have been early discussions around this by the filmmakers or not; so much of what they originally planned was mutated or dispensed with altogether by the time of the final edit as to render any early planning moot)...I don't see a shred of evidence anywhere in the film that the Engineers are anything other than brutal and cold.

+1 - I loved the CG Fifield attack scene. I wish they had gone with that design. The Vickers/Janek scene was good as well, but if I could have one thing changed it would be the Fifield CG creature.

I had some extras for friends who asked me and now canceled. So, I figure I'd offer it up here at cost instead of returning them.

Hey, it's only Thursday! Glad you got it though - nice packaging.

Not only in the structure of the story but in the subtext of all the characters. Personally, I think the script was half baked. It just wasn't quite ready. And it has a healty dose scientology shoe horned in that spoils some of the proceedings. The film looks great as all of Ridley Scott's movies do. But that is his Achilles heel. He will always go with production design before story. Prometheus is interesting and the clips make for a great trailer. But it could have been so much more than a "major cult classic".
I am willing to concede this. As I admitted in my post, as a narrative the film is flawed. However, the fact that viewers are able to make so many meaningful connections to it and engage is such fervent dialogue about it signifies to me that there is something of value in this film that extends beyond simple narrative conventions. WIth that being said, I will reiterate my point about a lot of that being brought into the film viewing experience by the audience members themselves...kind of like a "when you stare into an abyss, it stares back at you" kind of scenario.

This is the conclusion I came to myself after seeing it in the theatre the first time.

Did anyone else not pick up on this? I felt it was pretty clear with the time frame of 2000 years (that is a random number otherwise) and the fact that the movie took place on or near Christmas.

I am about to watch this in 3d tonight. I have not seen it since the theatre. This is defiantly a film that needs multiple views.
