Did anyone else not pick up on this? I felt it was pretty clear with the time frame of 2000 years (that is a random number otherwise) and the fact that the movie took place on or near Christmas.
Yep. Pretty much this.

WIth that being said, I will reiterate my point about a lot of that being brought into the film viewing experience by the audience members themselves...kind of like a "when you stare into an abyss, it stares back at you" kind of scenario.
I'm not a big fan of the "throw a lot of biblical/philosophical allusions and ambiguity at the wall and see what sticks" approach Mr. Lindelof favors here and in Lost. It seems like a facile, cheap substitute for writing that actually explores complex themes with intelligence and coherence; basically you're just leaving the viewers to do the heavy lifting for you.

Does the 3 D Blu ray have more extras than the 2d?

Reviews rated 3 D copies better because of extras

It sure does. An entire disc in fact.

Oh baloney! Look at some of the great films of all time, there is a wealth of discussion about them. Look at great sci-fi (Matrix, Star Wars, Star Trek, Blade Runner, etc), a lot of discussion. You're complaining about it being a "mess" yet many of us are able to understand where they are going perfectly, and realize this is a part of a series of films. We aren't meant to have it all figured out, but I think by in large most people are able to grasp what is going on and don't have a problem with it.

There IS something great about that. Better to have a movie people talk about, good or bad, than have a completely forgettable film that even the people that enjoy it don't talk about.
Bravo! Though I think it is great and is my film of the year thus far.

Guess I'm just a twit. That never crossed my mind, but the idea seems rather obvious when it's brought to your attention.

Scott said that they discussed going in the direction that Jesus was an Engineer but decided it was too "in your face" and that was abandoned. Jesus is not the reason they want us destroyed.

They wanted to destroy us because they could and because we were a failed experiment.

I didn't literally take it as 2000 years from 2091. When normal people talk, they wouldn't say "oh, 2060 years ago" or however long ago the crucifixion actually was.

Yep, so my point to him is that it wasn't exactly back to Jesus' time.

I tried cleaning the disk, which already looked flawless, tried starting the movie in different spots, tried cleaning my blu ray player (other blus play fine), but nothing is working. Here are a couple pictures below:

This is the first time I've ever had a problem with any of my blu rays. I won't be able to return it to Best Buy since I sold the DVD copy that came with it last night. Is there any replacement plan in place? What is the best thing I can do? Any help would be appreciated.
I'm watching it right now, and this has been happening with my copy starting at about the 39:00 mark. I'm at 45:00 and it's still doing it. I'm using a Sony s360 with the newest firmware.

UPDATE: I just tried it on my PS3 (newest firmware) and it plays just fine.

FIY: The fox digital copy application DOESN'T give you a different code when you try to input it in... Mine was always the same, didn't work, kept trying and after the tenth time or so it finally registered correctly in iTunes... Out of the blue.

Hope it helps a bit if people encounter the same problem as me. I have the canadian collector's set if it makes any difference (bilingual).

It was carbon-dating through a futuristic device. She was literally reciting the reading.
