I think people who hold very high standards for films and sci-fi in general will hate Prometheus. They were expecting the next 2001 or Bladerunner, and instead got a flawed but average sci-fi flick that's criticized very harshly. I kind of blame the marketing which was relentless for this film, not to mention that a lot of details were revealed in the trailer which may have killed the suspense of certain scenes. Judging from retablo's collection of criterions, I'm not too surprised from the criticism of storytelling, since people tend to raise their standards as they watch more quality films.

I just want aliens or some semblance of relation , but at least its been cool so far (the flame thrower part was dumb and I still can't figure out charlize theron's character and her purpose other than being a hoe bag ) I just don't like when things aren't explained or at the very least able to be interpreted. Which is where this looks like it could be going.

this is the most absurd thing ive read here in a while. blade runner is just so deep while prometheus is not? are you for real? just because a movie is 30 years old doesnt make it deeper then anything made today. both movies tackle some of the same subjects. the big one is what is it to be human? both movies atempt to give us answers to that question just in differant ways.

But Prometheus did not fly under the radar, nor was it critically maligned.
I can't predict the future, but I imagine it will be remembered as a "pretty good" film.

Do you mean the iTunes copy? You can't use the code in the insert for iTunes. Put the disc in, open the Fox Digital Copy interface, put the code in from the insert, and you will get a new code.

Hope this is what you meant.

Blade Runner does a much better job of using the story to make the audience think about the questions that everyone wants to know - is our limited life span enough (how long is "enough"), the intrinsic value of being a human being versus another life form, and overall roles in life. The questions are left open-ended, as these are tough questions. And stylistically, the sci-fi cyberpunk Los Angeles in Blade Runner was really groundbreaking.

Prometheus mostly asks questions about the motives of the aliens in the movie who created life on Earth and why the aliens in the movie wanted to destroy/change it. That's a pretty cool idea, but not very deep. Plus, stylistically, it looks a lot like the other sci-fi movies out there without standing out on its own terms.

That's why I believe there isn't anything really unique unique enough in Prometheus that would make it revered in the same way Blade Runner or 2001 is revered. I still think Prometheus is pretty good for what it is, though.

Same.. Though perhaps with the sequel(s) it will be. I really hope that with a sequel it will not feel incomplete and unsatisfying. The taste we got is great but it is just that, an incomplete meal.

So that creepy thing that grabbed the big derpy at the end was the first iteration of the face sucker . Hopefully if they make another they explain the why they wanted to kill everyone, and mainly why they have that black gunk, and why it makes whatever it touches a pissed off creature.

Decent movie but I'd have still rather seen aliens.

I dunno, it's a fairly deep question for some. The possibility of man being created by someone other than "God" is a great arc to explore. Plus I can't name another sci-fi movie made in the last twenty years that looks as good as Prometheus except Blade Runner. They look great because they're mostly real world sets that are wonderfully lit and have great atmosphere vs having every scene in the movie be green-screened.

But the question of logic can be questioned in even the most acclaimed films if you choose to do it.

Ok, I am in Iceland and was hoping this was just some bad info one the cover, there has been history of us getting lesser versions sometimes.

A few screenshots of Prometheus on my Optoma HD67. Go easy guys, it's just 720p . I skimmed through the movie today. I'll be watching it in 3D tomorrow.

EDIT:
The living room's kind of a mess, sorry about that. It's actually the middle of the night over here. Too tired to clean up

Thanks

It's the middle of the night and it's taking every bit of self control I have not to turn on my receiver and test the DTS-HD MA 7.1 track.. Can't wait till tomorrow . Does the sandstorm sound better than the one in Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol?

Well, to be fair, I just noticed that you can't see the sofa in the screenshots . There's the Prometheus case, slipcover, Amazon packaging, potato chips and a pepsi bottle and a bunch of other stuff. There's literally no place to sit . Not to mention the chair in the middle of the remove which is not usually present.

MI:GP had some amazing sound as well so if anything I'd say its fairly equal, maybe?

Then again I'm only using a soundbar and sub that gives off a simulated effect of 5.1 and 7.1. Its not legit but it sounds REALLY impressive in the small room my set-up is in. If anything, I'm just glad it decodes all the different forms of HD audio

I give credit to creating a great mythology and having reasonable eye candy - which brings me back to the movie - but Prometheus varies significantly from Blade Runner in that it is just such a joyless movie to watch. I think Richard Brody hit the nail on the head in his review of Prometheus.

"The movie lacks any joyful sense of discovery, such as emerges (intermittently) through the vainglorious bombast of “Alien.” Scott’s grim direction here seems to respond in advance to its critics: of course there’s no fun; the creation of human life and the destruction of it from that very source is serious business and deserves as grand and sober a treatment as possible."
