Heck yes, he's Ridley Scott approved! The Final Cut of Blade Runner was basically Charlie's idea and he took the lead on producing it, with final approval from Scott.

I highly recommend watching the documentary on the production of The Final Cut. It's pretty amazing.

Not in a chain theater, it was a 70 mm, with 7 story screen out at the state zoo. The image was 2:35:1 throughout, even with 3D. There was lots of space on top and bottom that looked liked letterboxing but since the screen was so huge, the image was 3 stories tall still.

Some of the best 3D I've seen. I can't wait to watch this one at home. Even in all the dark scenes you could pick out the depth.
It felt a little less wide than 2.35:1 at my IMAX theater. IMDB says the IMAX 3D version is 2:1 AR and that sounds about right.

Yes, but I don't often trust regular chain theater. Hell, I've been to some major Hollywood films in 2:35:1, and when the opening credit style is to the edge of the screen on either side, it's practically showing on the curtain or side of the wall. Even though they have the screen, they haven't fit their projector to the screen properly.

Plus, what kind of IMAX did you go too? Only trust a true 70 MM IMAX theater. You'll know because it is the ONLY screen there. These are usually found at zoos, aquariums, and museums, because they make their bones showing nature flicks, with Hollywood films scattered throughout the day

Untrue.

There is one IMAX in the Space & Science Center here, but the other one is in a Cineplex Odeon, with 16 other theaters. Yes, it's real IMAX.

It's a rare situation (one of the biggest malls in North America), but it does happen.

Question

Does anyone know if there are going to be any exclusive versions released for Prometheus at places like Best Buy, Target, etc?

This is the only exclusive that's been announced as far as I know, looks nice although a tad bit pricey

IMAX Digital was around 1.85:1, adding more to the top and bottom (Currently its the only digital IMAX I've seen and in a true "LieMAX" that used to be a big traditional screen then converted last Christmas). As I work in a theatre where we had the regular DCP version, I know that one was 2.4:1 scope. Personally i prefered the 1.85:1 ratio.

Didn't know there even was a 15/70 around, but I'm guessing they could have made the open ratio exclusive to digital (wouldn't be the first time).

There were definitelY two different aspect ratios. Seeing it in Digital IMAX it easily filled the screen. However, I could immediately tell that there was more vertical information than what I saw in the 2.40 trailers. In addition, you could tell that the HUD was designed for a 2.40 screen because there was negative space on the top and bottom on POV shots.

I suspect that the 3D Blu-ray will use the I cropped 1.78-2.20 aspect ratio. Fox has already used I uncropped 3D masters for Avatar and Narnia even when both films were presented in film theaters at scope aspect ratio.

I am tip-toeing along the fence on whether I should pre-order this, or wait.
I would hate to pick this up, only to find out that there is an extended version/etc... coming just a few short months later.
I sincerely hope that FOX throws in a ton of bonus material for this release.
I saw this in theaters and really liked it, but, felt that there was definitely something missing. Maybe alot of "something" is missing, and FOX is going to give this "something" back to us on the Blu !

Just had a look at the french version, and I really really wanna pre-order it and cancel my US one.

Upside:

-Confirmed second Blu-Ray disc for special features.
-Earlier Release Date (October 3)
-Cleaner cover art. No stupid swing that says 3D, just a bar on top.

Downside:

-Spine, the letters are going up, it'll look weird next to my other Blu-Rays.
-French Blu-Ray. Might have french menue and stuff like that, can't guarantee that it might be in english.
-Unconfirmed wether US will have the same special features.

I swear to god, why can't we have one choice? I just finished choosing between the Marvel Cinematic universe set or the Avengers. And now this!!??

Hopefully, they go for the 2.0:1 ratio for the 3D disc at least.
The audio will be 7.1, right?

Dolby did 7.1 for it at least since it's on their webpage but seems Fox never use Dolby so we should get DTS-HD 7.1 instead.

I'm only worried about Fox giving us a 5.1 mix like they did with Red Tails which was actually an 11.1 mix.
