From "Weyland Smithers" on Darkhorizons.com:

[Show spoiler]Prometheus is a hilarious comedy in the tradition of "Spaceballs" and "Men in Black" about a motley crew of forgetful, scaredy-cat scientists who go into space and try to find their alien creator. They find maps in caves that are their invitation, but this turns out to be a hilarious trick, like a mousetrap for retards.

The first scene is a giant, german-looking albino steroid guy who drinks some coffee out of an ashtray and gets sick and falls in the waterfall. Special effects reveal that he has little, tiny ladders in his blood called D&A. This guy looks like a member of the Blue Man Group, except White. There is a UFO flying overhead that is never seen or mentioned ever again in the movie. Just one of the many pranks that the writers and director have put in the movie to trick you with.

Next we meet these two very forgetful and silly scientists and they get to go into space on a beautiful ship. It is taken care of by a gay robot who does stuff like dye his hair and dress up like Robocop with a colander on his head to entertain himself. If C3PO had a human face, he would be this guy. All of the silly bungling scientists wake up from hyper-sleep in time to watch a hilarious hologram of a guy in an "old man" mask that looks like the Emperor from Return of the Jedi. I think he is wearing the old guy mask to get some laughs from the wacky scientists, but no one notices it. There is another funny guy with unconventional hair and tattoos who is really mean to everyone - that's so true! Guys that look like that are always dicks!

The spaceship starts to land on the planet, and as luck would have it, lands exactly near the alien castle on the very first try without even looking around too much - another hilarious example of serendipity! These guys are so lucky and fun to watch! The crazy scientists go into the alien castle and two of the guys get so scared that they decide to go back to the ship and get lost, even though they have flying superballs that make 3D maps of everything. Those two bungling doofuses! They are like "Dumb & Dumber" or "Abott & Costello". The rest of the gang finds more poisonous coffee and somehow the gay robot steals a whole pot of it without anyone noticing. He's such a Sneaky-Pete!

Everyone has to go back to the ship at the last minute because the Captian pranks them and waits until a violent storm is nearby before telling them about it! Haha! This guy is great! The two bungling idiot scientists get stuck in the castle and decide to goof-off all night. They try to pet a space cobra that lives in the poisonous coffee, but it kills them, which I think is what ALL cobras wish to do, space or no. Meanwhile, back on the ship, the gay robot does a HILARIOUS prank on the whiny scientist who wears a hipster scarf. He puts a little poisonous coffee in this jerk's drink and gives him pink eye and diarrhea (probably). Haha! That's like a whoopee cushion x100! Luckily the scientist has enough health left to hump his forgetful girlfriend one last time before he is all the way super-sick from the bad coffee. As one last prank to his fellow scientists, he suits up and goes back to the castle with them, even though he secretly knows he is very, very sick. Haha. What an inconvenience to the rest of the group - the ulimate prank!

The mean lady burns him later. The forgetful scientist gets pregnant with a white octopus and has to take it out using Michael Jackson's special oxygen bed. Now here is where the movie gets really hialrious, because she TOTALLY forgets that the alien squid is in there and just leaves to go do some errands! HAHAHA! It turns out that the funny guy in the old man mask is really hiding on the ship and he does some funny slapstick "old man walking" with a cane! I love it!

Everyone goes back to the alien castle for yet a THIRD time, this time to prank the space jockey who lives there. This guy is trying to take a nap, but they keep buggin him! Man, I hate that too! Anyway, they wake him up and start yelling at him, but he is SUPER cranky and kills everybody really fast, exactly the way I would have done it. The funny guy in the old man mask gets a GIANT bump on his head, just like on Bugs Bunny when someone gets an anvil dropped on them! Just another hilarious example of the comedy stylings of Ridley Scott. Luckily, without too much trouble the forgetful scientist sneaks away and easily convinces the funny captain to crash his ship into the space jockey's ship so he can't prank everyone on earth with the old "poison coffee routine." The mean lady gets crushed because the alien ship starts to roll like a big wagon wheel and she runs DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ITS PATH for big laughs from the audience. Classic slapstick.

Now here is where the set-up with the very, very forgetful scientist girl really pays off with BIG LAUGHS. She goes back to Michael Jackson's bed area and it turns out that the alien squid that she forget to throw in the garbage is now HUGE! This part reminded me of the hilarious movie "Men in Black" where Will Smith gets alien tentacles wrapped around him and screams in a high-pitched voice! Classic Sci-Fi comedy moments all around! Anyway, the forgetful scientist tricks the cranky nap-albino to go near the giant squid, and guess what? It gets him good so she can get away once again with plenty of luck on her side. Amazing!

The movie ends when the forgetful scientist makes friends with the gay robot head that killed her boyfriend and wanted to do the same to her, but hey - let bygones be bygones. Forgive and forget. They sail off together in another ship to go have more zany, whacky space-comedy adventures together! Hooray!

Oh, but wait! At the very, very, very end, an alien hatches out of the cranky nap-guy's belly and spits out its dentures! I wish the funny guy in the old man mask had done that too! I can't wait to see this one again this weekend. I think there are many, many, many other jokes and riddles that were never explained or that I missed while I was laughing at the other stuff. Intentional plot holes are the ultimate prank on the audience. It's like the whole movie just gave you two middle fingers with simultaneous fart noises.

Ten out of ten stars! See this one with your little kids!

Pretty funny Got stale towards the end for me though lol

Ok, so without rewatching the film again, I watched The Furious Gods while I put together a new shelf and rearranged my movies. I didn't pay extremely close attention, it was more filler and background noise but what I caught while I wasn't busy was terrific. Just as good as the docs on the Alien Anthology set. I consider both to be of the absolute best quality and a reference for other releases. Couldn't imagine owning only the 2D set.

1) The real mission of Prometheus was to find immortality for Peter Weyland. Only David and Vickers were aware of this. Everyone else, with the exception of Shaw, was just window dressing to use as cover for a "scientific expedition" based on Dr. Shaw and Dr. Holloway's findings. Shaw was included on the mission because as stated early on in the film, Weyland was a superstitious old man who wanted a true believer on board. As far as people coming and going with parasitical things on them, the only one who was infected was Holloway and that was because he was poisoned inside the ship by David. More about this in response #2. Lastly, Milburn was "playing" with the Hammerpede because he was a biologist and had just discovered a new alien life form. Was it reckless? Sure, but not so uncommon. Professional wild life expert Steve Erwin was killed by a piercing through the heart by a stingray barb.

2) David was neither good, nor bad. He was following his programming by Weyland and the true nature of the mission, which was to find Weyland immortality. When the initial search of the pyramid turned up no living Engineers, David was instructed by Weyland to "try harder." Having brought back the vile with the black goo, David decided to test it on Dr. Holloway. Before dipping his finger in the glass, David asks Holloway how far he would go to find his answers. Holloway responds by saying he would do anything and everything, thereby unknowingly giving David permission to test the goo. With regards to Shaw, she needed David, as he was the only one who knew how to fly the alien spacecraft. She doesn't trust him, but she needs him in order to survive and to find the Engineer's home planet.

3) Yes indeed, Vickers was a corporate nuisance. That's because she didn't believe in the mission. She didn't believe in Dr. Shaw and Holloway's findings or that they would actually find proof of the Engineer's existence, much less a living Engineer. She thought the mission was a tremendous waste of money and company resources. She was only on board to look after her father who she thought was crazy for financing a mission to chase a fantasy of finding some alien fountain of youth.

4) Fifield makes a brief comeback...hmm, yeah, I agree with you. This sequence exists for the sole purpose of ramping up the action and giving the audience a horror/monster attack moment.

5) The Prometheus was Weyland's personal spacecraft, and as such, had a Medpod on board for the sole purpose of providing Weyland with emergency medical care, which is why it was specified for male patients only. It wasn't meant for the crew. As for Shaw, sure her running around requires a suspension of disbelief, but she did keep injecting pain killers and swallowed pills. To her credit, she coiled over in pain from time to time. Plus, you could just chalk it up to good old adrenaline, as she was running for her life.

6) With regards to the ship crashing, before Shaw leaves to join Weyland in meeting the Engineer, Captain Janek does have a conversation with her in which he states that he'll do whatever's necessary to make sure that the black goo doesn't find it's way back to Earth. Being that he's military, Janek recognizes the goo for what it is, a biological weapon. He sacrifices himself to save Earth. As for the other two shipmates who join him...yeah, probably unnecessary, but I guess it was meant to show us a moment of loyalty and sacrificial team spirit.

7) Whad'ya mean no one was excited? Milburn seemed pretty pumped about discovering that Hammerpede!
+1. Agree with everything you've said.

Vickers was just along for the ride, and unexpectedly so, judging by the reaction of Weyland after he awoke, as he was surprised to see that she had decided to come along. Besides, Vickers didn't actually believe they were gonna find anything in the first place, and probably thought she wouldn't be in danger anyways.
+1. My guess was she wanted to exert some sort of authority by manning the mission. That said, she did say that she didn't want to be in the boardroom and planned to be far away from earth as possible. She knew that David was keeping Weyland in his quarters and always asked David what he'd "said" in his dreams to David. Looks like she just wanted to prove something to Weyland, but we all know how that panned out

Watched this the other night, really really pleased by how much I enjoyed and loved it. I wanted to see it a lot when it hit theaters, but certain things came up, and I ended up missing it. I'm surprised by some of the complaints about it to be honest.

Yup, I had this problem as well on my Sony BDP-S360. Had to turn the damn thing off and on again (and find my place) twice during watching it.

Im OK with a good setup film - but films like that still need to stand on their own and this barely does.

Hey - it is what it is. Lots of people liked it and lots of them have some of the same issues I do. It was a decent effort but man oh man it could have and arguably should have been so much more. There was a lack of character development too. We didnt learn enough about people to really feel invested in them. This is where Alien & Aliens crap all over this movie: WAY better writing and better characters. The plot of this film just isnt very tight and the last 30 minutes sort of feel like "huh"?

But, its got just enough going for it that I'll "buy in" and watch the second one and see what they do. The second film had better be a doozie though - anything short of spectacular and the series will be DOA to me.

Its not "hate", its simply people recognizing obvious flaws with the script, plot, and logic. Every movie has some of this. We could turn around and say "I dont get all the love for this film" but thats being too general. I think those of us that found these flaws are being quite reasonable about it. There ARE flaws. Now, how they effect everyone is different. Its one thing for someone to just say "this movie sucks" and then thats it. Its another thing to list out the problems and discuss them, which menay of us have been. No problem.

Watched a couple of the deleted scenes yesterday and one stood out to me.

[Show spoiler]The Fifield attack using CGI. I really liked the look of his face and head but the way they made his arms and legs really long looked stupid. Having seen that I wish they wouldve gone with a variation of the two we know and used the CGI head and face but keep the body more human like what we see in the finished product.

Same here. Didn't have that problem on my s580.

IMO Prometheus is in the top 5 or 10 at most BDs in terms of PQ that I've ever seen. The extras aren't too shabby either (also in the top 5 making-of docs that I've seen, even at 3 hrs. 41 min. -- plus another hour+ with the enhancement pods).

Sidenote: Tried to update the firmware on my s360 to the most recent (June 2012), thinking this might be the problem. Did this by burned disc, as I've updated several times before on 2 different 360s and a Magnavox. Basically, ended up with SYS ERR and a big paperweight for my trouble.

Over the weekend, I also watched an edit with the deleted/alternate scenes put back in the flick and I agree, I enjoy it more than the theatrical version. It will probably be my go-to version of the movie until Fox eventually releases an extended cut. The addition of these extra scenes don't suddenly make the movie go from "good" to "great" (just as the workprint version of Alien 3 didn't suddenly turn it into a terrific movie) but it's a start.

That makes sense. I just REALLY dug the long head and transparent layer of skin over his face. It was quite the nod to the other films but not so much as to put it RIGHT next to them.
[Show spoiler]Also, in the deleted scene when the guy opens the door and walks up to the "pile" of Fifield lying on the ground it looked much better with the more "Alien" design than the Fifield they used with the shattered helmet still on. The way the Alien Fifield looked in the deleted scene crumpled on the ground reminded me of one of the alien creatures in the other films "hiding"
.

No, it isnt. There are several logical flaws and plot issues that hold it back. Some are more pronounced than others but all of them piled on top of one another start to add up. Lets not try and make this film into some artsy, deep, religiously charged analogy or something like that. Its not.

The only thing to "get" or not "get" is why some of the dodgy'lazy writing, incredible logic gaps, or plot-meandering were allowed to leave the cutting room floor. A good editor would have come in extremely handy here.

Ill tell ya what - there is a thread at IMDB that really spells it all out. Its funny but its right on for the most part. For a good readm have a look...Iit really made my morning and highlighted some issues I didnt even think about. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1446714/...flat/205679462

One thing that stood out to me as out of place or timed all wrong
[Show spoiler]was the Fifield attack being mixed with Shaw finding Weyland.

What didn't make sense to me was that one of the "soldiers" standing next to Weyland was ALSO there during the Fifield attack. You see him clearly firing a weapon at Fifield at one point in the sequence yet seemingly at the same time Shaw is finding Weyland and he's standing next to him like the attack hasn't happened yet. Either these two scenes happen at completely different times and were just cut together that way or they made a boo boo. Its not a BIG BIG deal but noticeable IMO. I DO remember reading that originally the Fifield attack was to happen later when Weyland was already suited up and they were leaving to see the engineer but...its odd they didn't edit this correctly

I read that post on imdb and it reminded me of the time I took my son to see "Thor" and there were three idiots sitting behind us nit-picking like crazy. So I got up, walked right by them, gave them a stare for about 10 seconds, and they shut the hell up for the rest of the movie. One thing about real life, is that you can't hide behind a keyboard and monitor and try and live your life as if you're blogging.
