When do you think we'll see an Engineer vs Predator movie?

So, I decided to watch this with my parents (two people who saw Alien in theaters when they were about the age I am now,) and prefaced it only by saying that it was an "indirect prequel to the Alien trilogy that tells its own story but exists in the same universe."

Well, they both really enjoyed the film and commented on the plot's similarity to Alien, but recognized that it took on different themes.

Also, they're both very Christian, but still enjoyed the idea of searching for tangible proof of our creators, and the fact that Shaw struggled to maintain her faith throughout. (My Mom loved that
[Show spoiler]she asked David for her cross necklace before picking him up at the end.
)

Then, the very ending scene... Wow.
[Show spoiler]They both gasped when the baby xenomorph emerged, and my Dad was like, "Now, there's a guy I recognize!"
I gotta say, it was pretty cool to watch it with members of the original "Alien generation."

Edit: Also, a couple of funny additions, mostly centered around my Mom's insistence on repeatedly asking questions:

[Show spoiler]When Shaw had the baby alien removed from her body and it was struggling inside the chamber, my Mom was like, "What's she going to do with that thing now?!" and my Dad responded with, "Well, obviously she's going to love it and raise it as her own. Like a good parent."

Then, when Shaw entered the crash-landed escape pod at the end, my Mom asked us "What's she going to do now?" and my Dad was like, "...Watch Lawrence of Arabia till she dies?"

Gah, I love them.

I don't know how much in detail this was discussed but what was the significance of Scott showing Holloway's cross tattoo?

Remember his reference to his consultation with an engineer regarding the crash? The effects people tried to take a step back from the concept of the derelict ship in Alien to make it appear a bit more mechanical in design. The ship remains biomechanical, however. It was grown rather than built, ergo it was 'alive'. The fact that no damage was done when the Prometheus crashed into it should have been a clue.
By human site and design the derelict/Juggernaut should be enough to say that this thing is way to advanced by Human specs to fly anywhere.

So what if the mechanics of this Ship are activated by a flute, LOL we made the Clapper for crying out loud.

It's the little things and that helped Alien become such a classic film. The steps taken during preproduction such as giving two teams the responsibility to design an Alien World, and a Human world, that's just smart thinking if you ask me.

All of the nitpicking in that imdb thread reminded me of when all the Behind the scenes clips and conceptual designs for Babylon 5 came about when it aired in syndication. Ships flying different from what we saw in Star Trek and Star Wars, yada yada yada, build a decent story first before you begin to rationalize your belief that your product will be superior. Applied Science won't save you.

I agree with this post because it agrees with another awesome post....yeah.

I really dig it when movies like this make people think. Whether it be what little science it puts out there or the religious themes it touches upon or hints at...its good stuff man. I consider myself a Christian and after seeing Prometheus it didn't make be believe any less but it presented different concepts of creation that made me think.

Excellent post! That really made my day and makes me want to watch this movie again tonight and Alien afterwards.

I really love the opening of this film. The theme music, the scenery, the mysterious Engineer, that gigantic mother ship hovering around and then flying straight up into the clouds! What an epic opening!!!

The addition of these extra scenes don't suddenly make the movie go from "good" to "great" (just as the workprint version of Alien 3 didn't suddenly turn it into a terrific movie) but it's a start.
Where can this copy of the movie be found?!?

Has anyone else noticed quite a lot of aliasing on the text in the movie? I've only checked out a few scenes on my 3D Blu-ray but it immediately stood out to me. And it's also quite noticable in the shot of the Prometheus passing the asteroid belt. I have yet to see if the 2D version has this.

Probably right after we see Predator vs Navi on Pandora.

It seems Dr. Biltoo, the deveoper of the Engineer language has discovered an easter egg on the BD that provides an english translation of the engineer speaking during the unused opening scene. The effort that went into the deveopment of this language is noteworthy:

"I received a hidden video clip from the Prometheus Blu-ray disc, an Easter egg of sorts, which shows a short five minute documentary on the linguistics used in Prometheus. – Apparently there are loads more hidden clips on the disc. The video is called Language of the Gods and although I have the full clip on my computer, I cant upload the whole clip to YouTube, so I’ve had to resort to extracting a few clips that are sub-fifty seconds long, so not to breach copyright. This video is the property of 20th Century Fox."

has anyone mentioned this?...read this today on DigitalBits...

"a number of readers are reporting problems with Fox’s Prometheus Blu-ray. Throughout the second half of the film, some copies are plagued with macro-blocking and will occasionally cause players to simply shut down. It appears to be a manufacturing error and isn’t affecting all copies, so if you’re having trouble we recommend you exchange it with your retailer. You can also contact Fox Customer Care at 1-888-223-4369"

Is this an issue with the 2D and 3D disc?

Probably wrong but who knows lol.
if you look the one who's head get chopped, he stumbles as he is running. I thought the exact same thing, that he was infected. I was thinking maybe he ingested it somehow

I think this because when they zapped the head they had, it continued to decompose and it reminded me of the opening scene.

speaking of opening scene, not much talk about the opening, and the big silver ufo, that dropped his a$$ off there. Imagine how long and boring the journey is from life capable planet to life capable planet, just too drop him off and be on your way out before he has even done this grand event. Maybe their watching in their rear view mirror seems like there is more to the story.

and how about the green crystal that holloway touched while looking at the possible xenemorph mural? he was looking at it and the mural when he said "just another tomb" what is behind that wall

this is just the beginning, I will unravel this mystery and get my answers.

brain hurts now

It's funny you mentioned that, because I was going to post something similar. I just listened to Ridley Scott's commentary while watching the movie...again. He said something about that stumbling Engineer being infected too, and it was proven when he had the black marks when they brought his head out of dormancy.

My question though, is we see a few other Engineers run into that room ahead of him, and we're given the impression that that door has stayed closed ever since then, thats why the head and everything inside was so perfectly preserved. But then where were the other Engineers that ran in?

I had this issue with the 2D disc using a Sony BD-760. I returned the set to Amazon and ordered a new one and it played through fine tonight. Someone on the UK thread suggested turning the settings on your BD player to disallow Blu-ray Live which I also tried. I am not sure if the old disc was just defective and now I have a new one, or whether turning off the BD Live helped. Good to know that Fox has recognized the issue though.

Default Problems with Special features disc

Has anybody, besides me, had problems with the 3rd disk, the Special Features disk? I just get a black screen when I try to play it with my LG blu-ray player (which is updated to the latest firmware). I tried playing it in my blu-ray burner on my PC, and sometimes the disk plays, sometimes not. I got a replacement disk from Amazon, and that too has the same problems.

I can't believe that my blu-ray player and burner are both faulty (especially since they play any other disk I have), so it must be the disk, and if 2 copies of the same disk have the same problems, it suggests a faulty disk manufacture. But if that's the case, there should be other people with the same issues?

Also when the disk does play in my PC, I noticed that the segment showing the screentest for Noomi Rapace shows a time length of 0:00, which sounds wrong to me.

I was going to ask what about the 4 space jockey's that are standing kinda as "guard" to the sleep chamber/navi room? David just shines his flashlight and continues into the sleep/navi room. Are they just empty suites? Are they they ones that got into the room before the headless engineer?
