That mural is completely out of place (for me), it looks like it was there for a specific reason. But based on the looks of juggernaut's controls, the use of that crystal gives me the impression of totally different alien technology....

[Show spoiler]how does fifield make it to the ship with a hole in the helmet? 2 minutes and your dead I thought? Maybe the same way that the engineer made it to the life boat to get shaw, with no breathing support? So far the black goo has had a different effect on all ways of contact and with all species. Interesting..
.And I think that Paradise will be cold dark evil. Remember the comment about it being -12° and the liquid on the ground not being frozen inside the ship? I think Paradise will somehow treat shaw and david as gods maybe, or at least royalty to say the least. They show up in an engineer warship, just shaw and an android. David will be key, but shaw will run the show as best as she can but you already know the android will mess things up as usual.

I will give me a few mins, btw with the deleted scene with them finding the little worm, the "first alien" makes more sense out of the scene when milburn gets it from the hammerpede right?

questions will be answered

I go around my house saying that and my wife is like " what answers? What questions have been answered? Gimme a break" and she carries on lol

Yep, "first" alien. That also makes more realist (well, at least less stupid) on how he approached the hammerpede later.

Wifes wondering what is going on with that freaking movie.......LOL. I'm heading back and forth to my basement (HT Room) to look at that movie several times already, and my wife doesn't say anything, she just gives me that weird look.......

Yeah, this movie is not perfect and there are so many things that we can agree should have been approached in a different way; but, man just the talk, different ideas shared among the folks here and the fact that even after re-watching the movie several times, we can continue adding more and more items to the conversation.

Best $19.99 spent in several months.....

Was the one engineer who got his head chopped off the only one who was infected? He could have been chasing the other guys (kind of like how the red-headed geologist attacked all his crew after he got infected).

[Show spoiler]What I thought was interesting about that scene is that he stood there for as long as possible going through excruciating pain before he eventually fell into the falls.

If that was me...I would have jumped off immediately after ingestion and enjoyed the awesome ride to the bottom. Then the agony of the sacrifice would have been averted all the while accomplishing his mission.

After all...hasn't everybody always wondered what it would be like taking the plunge off of a waterfall?

I'd do the same.

Showed the first half of this film to my brother today and when the credits finished and we get to the falls he says, "That steroid dude better watch out for that ID4 spaceship--they kill everybody they see."

We'll finish up tomorrow.

Agreed. Hope paradise sheds some light as to how this process started and why. How many of the other planets in the hologram have they grown life on? Will that life be relavent? Note the opening scene again, doesn't his black goo container look like the tops of the canisters w/goo on the ship? More research needed on black goo. Fact atmosphere changes it. Fact it does something different to you depending what you are and how you come into contact with it. Fact this movie is fun to talk about.

One week on, and I'm still enjoying the hell out of this BD. I've been enjoying revisiting the film (several times ) as well as delving into the insane amount of supplemental material. This has to be the most impressive new release that's been released on home video. Granted there's arguably more impressive releases like the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions, but even those were released months down the road after the initial DVD releases. I'm just so grateful that Ridley & Charlie de Lauzirika have supplied us with this spectacular package.

I also have to say, with Paradise and the Blade Runner sequel on the horizon - I'm very happy that Ridley's going to hang out in the sci-fi arena for the next couple years.

I'm sure as hell not looking forward to Paradise and the Blade Runner sequel (though inevitably, I will watch them at their midnight screenings for sure). Prometheus when I saw it at the theatre for its midnight premier, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and figure that the true vision of the film will be revealed with the deleted and alternate scenes undoubtedly to be included with the home release. Well, I've now rewatched the film and watched all the alternate and deleted scenes and have come to the conclusion that the theatrical cut is probably going to be the best version of the film. It was evident from the alternate and deleted scenes that they were cut for a reason, because they would have dragged a middling film even further down the path of a flawed and mediocre film. Either the script was flawed or Ridley Scott is terrible at scripts and its clearly evident that he can not deal with directing people at all. Great at cinematography, horrible at everything else. I don't recall a good film from him since probably Black Hawk Down and yet I still religiously watch all his films including that horrid Robin Hood. Tsk tsk.

Uh, okay. So you don't want to see them but you are going to see them. Makes sense.

BHD is an average film. Robin Hood is just plain terrible. And Scott didn't write the script to Prometheus, so I have no idea where you got that from.

Basically, your post makes almost no sense.

If you guys want to talk plot holes, wait till you see Looper. I really enjoyed it tonight though and would rank it as my second favorite film this year so far.

Several of the IMDb poster's arguments could be leveled at other films in the Alien franchise, or any space fantasy flick for that matter. Observations such as mastering gravity on a spaceship or hearing engines roaring through space are scenarios present in much of science fiction, including the Alien franchise. Either you choose to accept the world that's presented to you in these films and just go with it, or you don't. Is Prometheus a perfect film? No, it isn't. But neither are most films for that matter. It doesn't make the film any less enjoyable. If Star Wars were released today, it probably would undergo just as much scrutiny...oh wait, it did. It's called The Phantom Menace

So do people either "get" this film or "not get" it? Perhaps there's a small degree of truth to that, but if we were to be more honest with ourselves, I think the reason that this film is being held under the proverbial microscope is because it's part of the universe of a beloved franchise. I think expectations were unreasonably high based on Ridley's long-awaited return to the genre, and many out there already had preconceived notions about the direction this film should've taken, rather than walk into it and take the ride that was presented to them with an open mind. Many wanted another Aliens...others still wanted a direct prequel that segued right into the first film. Had Ridley attempted either of these paths, I think the results would have been less successful. Either the film would've been a retread of what came before it, or there wouldn't have been any elements of mystery or surprise left because Ridley would've been too busy connecting all the dots to the first film. I'm personally thrilled with the film we got and can't wait to see where Ridley takes us next. End rant
+1. Spot on mate. I think that it's universally loved and hated equally is testament that Scott did well in polarising fans and movie goers with his vision. Blade Runner did the same (though movie goers hated it, critics loved it). It became a cult classic.

Ultimately, movies are made as entertainment (unless they are documentaries). This movie is entertaining. Whether that is intrigue, sfx, character development, Charlize Theron etc. It was not made a science movie to be dissected or analysed for plot holes. Every movie contain them. Some are subtle, some are absurd. Just watch it without any preconceptions or expectations and take it for what it's worth.

I can't believe that my blu-ray player and burner are both faulty (especially since they play any other disk I have), so it must be the disk, and if 2 copies of the same disk have the same problems, it suggests a faulty disk manufacture. But if that's the case, there should be other people with the same issues?

Also when the disk does play in my PC, I noticed that the segment showing the screentest for Noomi Rapace shows a time length of 0:00, which sounds wrong to me.
I think it's more likely the discs use new authoring techniques/features that some players are struggling with, has happened before and eventually firmware updates are released which sort it.

Luckily my ageing Panasonic BD35 is immune and plays everything I throw at it, I dred the day when it dies and I have to get a replacement as I just know it won't be as reliable.
