I referred to this before I edited my post, but as you said Fox is a bit hit and miss with providing 7.1 tracks. The sound of Music has a 7.1 soundtrack, so I do not see why a film with a native 8 channel mix shouldn't have a 7.1 track.

Fox also gave The Rocky Horror Picture Show a really good 7.1 DTS-HD MA track. I don't know why they wouldn't give Prometheus one.

Yeah, I'm wondering if they're going off of the BD details that got released a few weeks or so ago that Fox said were not completely accurate.

It would be a shame if there was no Extended Cut, but from the looks of things this is still going to be one hell of a BD package - so I'm excited either way.

Of course no Director's Cut. Because 3 months after we buy the Theatrical version they'll announce the 20 minute Extended Cut. And in a year there'll be a 3-hour version. They're gonna milk this cow til it's dead.

Well, at least you know now so you don't have to buy it the first time around. Imagine being as pissed as I was when I bought Hellboy when it was first released on DVD only to open it up and find a coupon for the upcoming 3-disc special edition Director's Cut. That's enough to make you wanna throw things.

I'm not so sure about that. Ridley didn't delay on the director's cut for Robin Hood, and Charlie de Lauzirika says this is one of most expansive editions he's done. We also know we're getting commentaries, which are typically held off until the longer director's cut is released (see the DVD releases of 'Kingdom of Heaven'). Plus, Ridley did keep insisting that there wouldn't be a different cut (though you can never tell if that's just posturing for the theatrical cut, or the truth). Whether this contains an extended cut or not, I'm quite confident that this will be the release of Prometheus (excepting for typical studio double dips further down the line).

But who knows? It's just as likely I'm talking out of my ***.

I hope there is a 2 Disc edition with the director's/extended (whatever they want to call it) in Oct-not just a bare bones version.. We will have to wait til the official announcement.

It's not going to be barebones. Like I said, Charlie de Lauzirika (who does Ridley Scott's DVD/BD packages) already stated it was going to have massive amounts of extras.

Per thedigitalbits.com from Comic-Con:

Charles de Lauzirika was unable to show footage from his BD work on Prometheus or The Amazing Spider-Man, though he did promise that the Prometheus Blu-ray will be among the most comprehensive special editions he's ever created for a single film and that it will definitely "enhance your appreciation" of the story.

They also posted this list of extras that was from Amazon's French website, that 20th Century Fox later said was only partially accurate:

Quote:
Disc One will include the film in 2D along with 150 minutes worth of extras, including 15-minutes of deleted and alternate scenes, audio commentary by director Ridley Scott, 4 Private Records of Peter Weyland viral videos (The Offer of Elizabeth Shaw, Happy Birthday, David, Prometheus Transmission: Extended Version and The TED Conference: Weyland in 2023 - Long Version), Pre-Production material (including text of the first and final drafts of the script, a gallery of Ridleygrams, The Art of Prometheus photo gallery, a 30-minute Pre-visualization featurette, 15 minutes of Noomi Rapace screen tests, a Costume Design gallery and what appears to be a featurette called Look of the Cast), Production material (a Graphic Video Dashboard, a Production Team photo gallery and video taken by the private pilot) and Post-Release material (including a Marketing Gallery). There's also 60 minutes of Second Screen App content featuring the archives of Peter Weyland. Disc Two is the Blu-ray 3D version of the film. And Disc Three is a Bonus Disc containing additional extras, including the 9-part, feature-length The Angry Gods "making of" documentary [includes At the Conquest of Paradise (scenario), The Engineering Upside Down (direction & design), The Manifest Human (characters & costumes), A Nest of Demons (creature design), A World Without Green Spaces (Pinewood), Gains of Chance (stunts & action), The Beginning and End (Iceland), The Sky on Fire (visual effects) and Prometheus Without Limits (post-production and theatrical release)], as well as 30 minutes of Units of Improvement mini-featurettes and the aforementioned Archives of Peter Weyland.
So while we can still expect the final announcement to differ from this list somewhat (we already know, for instance, that there's also going to be a writer's commentary track), it's pretty much for sure that this will NOT be barebones.

Thanks-i just want the deleted scenes-mainly. I thought this was the second best movie this summer, and want to see it again-and the sequel.

I have a feeling the disc will contain all the deleted material but, won't have an extended cut because Ridley considers the theatrical cut his "director's cut". I do hope I am wrong, though, as I would love a longer cut.

I don't know about movie ratings, but maybe the studio wanted the movie to gross a lot, and was disappointed to get 300 million for a movie that cost 130. Maybe they are planning on getting money through home releases by releasing an extended cut later on, they know almost all the fans will get it, I know I will.

I would like a longer cut, but as long as the scenes are on the bluray somewhere I can see them-that is all I ask.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a film he hasn't done a director's cut for. Robin Hood was Universal, who hasn't shown much interest in revisiting BDs very soon after their release, aside from revamping the packaging and maybe adding a dvd or dcopy. Remember Universal is THE studio that has publicly stated they believe discs are dying (of course according to their predictions, BD should already be dead). Robin Hood also didn't do extremely well. If they were going to encourage sales, the time for a director's cut was probably then.

Fox on the other hand is the worst studio about double-dipping. They love it! And Prometheus is definitely one that deserves a longer cut I think. It was good as is, but like Kingdom of Heaven had a lot more potential, I thought and left me similarly wanting for a story that felt more finished, and I'm not talking about the end.

I haven't decided whether or not to keep my preorder or cancel and wait, for an Director's Cut that I think is more likely to happen than not. I'm hoping for the same magnitude of a re-edit that turns a decent film into a great one, like Kingdom of Heaven, which almost isn't watchable in it's theatrical form once you've seen the DC. And I'm confident Scott has it in him. After seeing a few interviews, I now regard the theatrical cut of any Scott film as the "business" cut. And any director's cut as being his true artistic vision for the film, as that usually tells the story he most wanted to tell and the former is usually edited for time or compromises pressured by the studio. If there isn't a DC coming for Prometheus, I can only assume it might have something to do with the 3D photography costing too much to finish, based on sell projections.

Hell, a lot of his films from the past ten years don't have directors cuts (stuff like Matchstick Men, A Good Year, Body of Lies, etc.).

The big thing to remember here is that the theatrical dvd release of Kingdom of Heaven contained relatively brief documentary material and not much else. Maybe some addition tv specials as well, I think.

They held off on the big guns like multiple commentaries, the major in depth documentary ('The Path to Redemption', spanning two bonus discs), lots of additional featurettes, trailers, tv spots, etc. until the four disc director's cut edition.

If we see stuff like that on this release of Prometheus, I'm not very inclined to think we'll be getting a director's cut months down the road. There'll still be a chance of a studio requested extended cut years down the road (ala Gladiator and Alien), but I'm certainly not going to wait for that. Hopefully we'll see the official specs soon (and I'm personally still hoping that a longer extended cut is indeed among those specs) so we can tell if this is going to be a light package or an all out elaborate one. All signs so far (Charlie's Comic Con comments, the early Amazon listing) point to the latter, regardless of a longer cut or not.

Speaking of Matchstick Men, when is that gonna get a Blu-ray release?

did I miss the "official" special features announcement from Fox on "Prometheus"? Fox sure is stalling on locking in exactly what will show up on the Blu Ray discs and it is less than 2 months away from street date...
