Put me down as someone who wouldn't hesitate to say that Prometheus wipes the floor with Avatar; and I enjoyed Avatar.

But I find Prometheus to be infinitely more interesting.

Oh please.. every aspect of Prometheus is superior

Ridley Scott science fiction

Noomi Rapace

Golden age spacesuit bubble helmets

Gigermonsters

Practical sets

Puppetwork and prosthetics instead of full cartoon monsters

any one of those six things alone would make it an amazing film
but it's a compilation of awesome

I found Prometheus to be WAY more watchable than Avatar. Prometheus also has a MUCH better cast IMO.

While Avatar is visually stunning throughout (and so is Prometheus in alot of ways) I found Avatar to be slow, boring, and the story fairly uninteresting. The big battle at the end is the payoff for all the crap in the beginning and middle of Avatar. I honestly felt like the movie couldve been 20-30mins shorter because it seemed to drag on and on with the "him becoming part of the tribe" gimmick. IMO Avatar is mostly spectacle over substance.

I am still stuck in Halloween mode so I have not had a chance to watch Prometheus in 3D.

So let me ask: can Prometheus work as a movie to watch during Halloween? I wanna see it, but so far I'm stuck watching the Universal Monsters, Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers -- and perhaps scariest of all: Scared Shrekless.

Advice please.

That is actually a sentiment I had as well with Avatar. After seeing the movie in theaters and experiencing this new type of 3D I had no want to see the film again. I was more impressed with the 3D technology then the actual movie. It failed to impress me or capture my attention for that matter but Prometheus on the other hand really sparked my imagination where ill probably watch this film over and over again on Blu ray. Believe it or not I'm excited for the sequel, I could careless about Cameron's 4 sequels he has lined up for Avatar.

The way I see it is Prometheus is a horror movie and Avatar is not. I suppose if someone who prefers horror movies, they would think Prometheus is better.

Personally, I don't care if it's uncool to think this, but I think Avatar is a great movie and is miles better Prometheus.

I also enjoyed Prometheus that much more. I did like Avatar, just didn't love it.

Just in case anybody else is having issues with this disk (surely I can't be the only one), I think I've figured out what the problem is... memory. When I tried mounting a 4Gb USB on my blu-ray player, the disk finally played okay, so I guess my LG blu-ray player is deficient in RAM. That probably also explains why it played on my PC with WinDVD (tho' incidentally it didn't play with CyberLink PowerDVD or Nero Kwik Media)

I'm curious where Avatar sequels will go (not as curious as with Prometheus lol)
but still/// what is Cameron planning

now that the tired colonial guy-native girl fantasy story is out of the way, maybe we can get a good/crazy/unpredictable story

So funny. I couldn't barely watch it the first time, let alone any subsequent viewings.

Avatar is trash. The effects are good but, the story is freaking terrible.

Just a couple thoughts that I've had in the past day about the movie:

1. We can be pretty sure that the Engineers were coming back to Earth, but we can't say for sure that they were going to destroy it. The US sends out battleships all the time to patrol, but that doesn't mean we're going to attack. Having weapons and intending to use them are two different things. I just kind of think everyone jumped to the conclusion that they were going to come back to Earth to wipe it out simply because they had the black goo on the ship.

2. About the Engineer that attacked Shaw at the end. We don't see him enter the lifeboat, so maybe he had a helmet or portable air supply on? I don't recall if anything was shown in the deleted scenes, but they don't count anyway.

3. I think everyone tends to side with the humans, but imagine the Engineer's view for a second. Some alien intruders break into his ship and wake him up after the mother of all naps. He had every right to be angry. Especially after Weyland explained that he was there because he thought he deserved something.

Yea. Part of me thought, at one point anyway, that one (of maybe several) reasons the engineer got so upset was what IF those cave paintings were indeed invitations. Here we go to find them and when we finally do, instead of being humble in front of our creator/s we instead EXPECT something from him like he owes us a favor...and it probably doesnt help that David the android was there, possibly showing the engineer that WE ourselves were trying to be creators of life only in a far more artificial way...and the engineer may have looked at David as an abomination. Perhaps he looked at David and thought "these humans have created an artificial lifeform stronger and smarter than themselves (given David was the only one capable of communicating with the engineer), they are clearly unfit to survive as they will inevitably destroy themselves with such things"
