If only that was what actually killed him. Personally I don't see how Milburn's behaviour is any different than Kane looking inside the egg...

Yeah when you put the other Alien films in context... It sort of makes sense that people would be so stupid since everyone in all of those films make increasingly poor decisions.

Great point there! I didn't even think about that.

It wasnt even the terrible straight line they ran in, how about the fact that what appeared to be a smaller rock was able to hold up a 5 trillion ton spaceship amd keep it from crushing Shaw? That was dodgy.

Kane was very cautious in his approach. Milburn was basically like "Here kitty, kitty", ready to play fetch with the damned thing. Kane was also NOT a scientist in any way so he had less knowlege of what he was getting into. I realize that neither guy used the best judgement but one scene was MUCH more realistic & less eyroll-inducing than the other.

big difference being well documented animals and never-seen-before alien lifeforms

Visually both are fine, nothing to discuss there. The script of Avatar felt more polished & ready whereas Prometheus seemd to have a lot of interesting ideas and concepts but wasnt able to get them on screen properly. Or something like that.

Avatar also had better character development - even though the characters were predictable and we've seen them before, they still had character "arcs". Like Jake Sully and his love story. Parker Selfridge getting softer at the end. Even Neytiri being hostile towards Jake at first but then falling for him. Its simple stuff but its still somewhat believable and genuine. Prometheus doesnt have much actual development. We dont meet or get to know anyone early in the film - The film basically starts with the expedition where Shaw and Halloway find the cave paintings. Then, its off to space we go. If anything, David is the most interesting character in Prometheus and he isnt even a person. The rest of the characters are either total throw aways - meaning you know they are gonna die during the film in some way or they simply arent developed much. There are no character arcs/backstories in Prometheus that I could discern. I hardly cared what happened to any of the humans. In Alien, for example, most people were rooting for the crew or at least Ripley towards the end.
+1. Big fanboy of Prometheus and Avatar, but yeah, have to agree with you on this. Didn't like Avatar's simplistic "storyline," but have to admit that it was far more cohesive and better written.

+1. Yep. You just brought back some good memories. The Black oil was a constant theme throughout the seasons of the X-Files. So mysterious. So dangerous.

However, can anyone explain one thing:

1) Why did they need to cast Guy Pearce (who is in his 40's) to play a Peter Weyland (who is old)?

Looking at the character Peter Weyland, one can easily tell it's an actor in "old-man" make-up, aka Johnny Knocksville in Jackass.

Why not just cast an old actor?
As mentioned in the "Furious Gods: The making of" documentary, Scott did ponder on casting an old actor to play Weyland. However, he also had in his mind that there will be a scene showcasing the upcoming, younger Weyland, ready for his prime.

This was evident in the "Peter Weyland Files" as one of the extras and a viral video FOX sent out. It shows Guy Pearce at a TED talk in 2023, basically telling the audience of his ambition and Weyland Corp's future plans. It's quite a rousing scene. Plus, Scott also wanted to work with Pearce.

LOL. How about:

Prometheus II: Wrath of the Engineers

Prometheus II: Paradise Lost

I could be wrong but I think at least the working title is just going to be "Paradise".

Well, his vision was beginning to become impaired. I'm sorry, I couldn't help it. She just has one ugly face IMHO.

It was the curvature of the ship's hull that kept her from being crushed, not the rock.

So is there an issue with either the 2D or 3D version?

There was a scare a few days ago about problems with each. But then everyone dropped it.

Not to get into this discussion again, but I happen to think that Noomi is gorgeous. They deglamorfied (making up my own word there) her a bit with the unflattering haircut, etc. to look more like a science nerd, but I still think she looked great.

Again, each to their own.

It's her nose. It just doesn't match.

That's what I've been saying every time this argument comes up!
I guess it's not as apparent as I thought it was

Shes attractive enough I s'pose. I thought she looked really cute at the beginning with the long hair, the shorter haircut?...meh. I wouldnt push her out of my lap though.

Wouldve been funny if she wouldve waked up rubbing her a** and said "Charlie you okay? You hit every one BUT the right one last night"

Okay okay, I'm done

I agree and in fact, I've seen many pictures where she's down right hot. Just scanning (quickly) a Google Search finds a few. An actress doesn't have to be Angelina Jolie to be attractive and I think Noomi Rapace is very good looking and has a great, modern look to her.
