I don't know what world you live in but I work with smart engineers and scientists every day and just because someone is smart doesn't mean they have common sense. Plenty, plenty of smart people do really stupid things. It's disappointing really.

They're knowledgeable about their specific field... thats it.

There's "book smart" and then there's "street smart," although perhaps they'll be called something else by the end of the 21st century

Scientists, engineers, doctors (in general) are book (not street) smart.

Janek and Fifields are the exceptions in this case (although Janek just flies the ship )

Handful? Have you read the forums both here and elsewhere? Sure, trillions is an exaggeration. Handful would be an absurdly low exaggeration. The point is that a large number of people have many of the same problems with the film. It doesn't make them disappear because some fanboys conjure up some obscure, pointless explanation. Lets just accept the fact that there are some problems with this movie, just like most others. It's not the end of the world. No one will die because of some lazy writing, plot inconsistencies, and logic problems. It's going to be OK. Great, now that we cleared that all up.

I'm going to try watching this again tonight. I'm curious to see how the second viewing goes.

Ya know, I agree with ya here. I work some very book smart people who couldn't run a lemonade stand. It is possible and somewhat realistic to see smart people fail when it comes to common sense. However, when people's lives are at stake I'd like to think even nerdy scientists would know some basic dos and donts.

It's just the case!

Cases are the most easily replaceable part of a blu-ray package!

If it were a problem with a disc, you'd have to buy a whole set to replace the disk.

Same if the cover art was damaged, you'd need to track down a cover insert or again, but the set again.

But it's very easy (and cheap) to get replacement cases!

For example:
How is

The 3D looked good, but Prometheus left me colder than a Stouffer's frozen lasagna! Ridley Scott should get spanked!

What a useless complaint. David could have instructed Shaw on how to fly the ship, or she may have "recapitated" him. We also have no idea how much time has elapsed by the time they take off.

Are you kidding, or are you completely unfamiliar with the language of film? The sequence doesn't play out in realtime. It's called montage, mate.

I'm sure this isn't the first movie you've ever seen. Time flow in movies is completely different from time flow in real life. 5 minutes can mean 5 days in a film.

Yeah, this is what I understood to have happened. After David betrayed everyone, it would've been dumb for Shaw to give him mobility.

Uh, okay. You do know that time passes diffrently in the movies, right? You didn't really think that Spock went from child to grown man in one second, did you?

And folks, David didn't betray anyone. He was acting on

[Show spoiler]Weyland's orders, even at the expense of the crew (just as Ash did).

Right after being told to "try harder," he sabotage's Halloway's drink to see what effect the black goo will have on a human being. His goal is to see if the goo will have any regenerative properties on humans, as his primary objective is to extend Weyland's life. Halloway's death and the squid baby are the side effects of that [failed] experiment. David inadvertently creates the first alien queen as he is attempting to unlock the "secrets of the gods" for Weyland.

It's not fully apparent on the first or second viewing, but after you give it some time to sink in, you'll realize David was only following Weyland's orders.

[Show spoiler]It flies through the mechanics of a bowling alley. Shaw would have to hit a 1 pin for the ship take-off, 2-6 are speed and navigation, a 7-10 split to fire the weapons and so on. To self-destruct the ship she'd need a strike as it's quite difficult due to the non-sphere shape of David's detached head. If you look closely in the film you can spot the lanes on the bridge of the ship and there's even a little cubicle to get your shoes as those space-boots aren't regulation equipment....

I'd think you'd want to hit the 7-10 split for the self destruct, and strikes for the weapons.
