Absolutely. I wouldn't have bought the movie on blu-ray if it hadn't been for that extra disc of goodies from the 3D set.

I wasn't even aware of the bonus disc only being with the 3D set. Glad I was able to pick it up for $15 at BB. I watched the first 45 mins, some very good stuff. I didn't love the movie but I liked it's ambition.

No doubt. It's very strange how enjoyable it is watching a documentary of how a mediocre movie was made.

Default Prometheus Disc Problems

Has anyone else had or heard of any issues with the 4-disc blu-ray version of Prometheus? I got my copy about a month ago and was just getting around to watching the special features, specifically The Furious Gods documentary, when I started noticing some problems. I am watching the discs on my Sony S-550 player with the latest update, and have noticed that the load time is unusually long, and that the menu interaction is noticeably very slow. A specific instance of this would be when searching for a specific scene from the main menu.
Also, I started watching the Furious Gods documentary segments individually and for some reason my player completely locks up after each segment.
Does anyone know if this is a disc manufacturing problem, or something else?
If so, has anyone exchanged a problem copy for a new one which hopefully fixed the problem?

I had problems when playing the movie on my Sony s360. It played fine on my PS3. I waited about a month after release and exchanged it for another copy. I haven't tried the new copy yet.

This country can be such a rip-off you know...
Can you confirm this is region free as the copy I got from Amazon USA has region A on the back of my collectors disc and I don't want to open it unless it is definately region free.

I picked a copy of the 2D version at my local Family Video and I noticed they had the 4 disc version for sale as well (both previously viewed for $12.95). So I politely asked if I could include the disc of extras in with the 2D BD and they said sure.

Wow, that box set will just muddy the waters around this film even more.

I'm a major Alien fan, and I did not enjoy Prometheus; the film's connections to the Alien series are tenuous, at best. Many (and I'd wager that's really MOST) Alien fans disliked the film, or simply ignored/didn't see it. There's no way in hell I'd buy a set that paired Promie with the Alien films. Perhaps I'll change my tune when/if sequels are made....but I really doubt it.

Prometheus is "The Alien prequel that got marketed that way at first then was changed to encompass a larger story as well as countless script rewrites and a ballooning budget by a guy that makes mostly really expensive cult films and that's why no one likes it too much the cult hasn't fully grown yet".

Either that, or it sucked. (j/k, I just hope you enjoyed it more than I did.)

You won't be a fan of Alien / Avatar / Prometheus set then. Those Smurfs are just blue Engineers. With pointy-teeth....

I noticed that Spaight's original script for Prometheus was floating around online and he confirmed via Twitter that it was real. After reading it, I found myself really sad that it didn't get made. I feel that it would have been a perfect film with many answers and minimal plot holes, and yet they still could have spun off into a sequel. At the very least, I'm glad I read it so I feel like I got the true prequel I wanted.

I watched about an hour of the documentary along with the sub-docs in the main doc. I got the feeling that they micromanaged the look of this film while macro managing the script and plot lines. All style over substance doesn't win in the hearts and minds of many moviegoers nowadays. Everyone is a critic and rightfully so. We should have demand more scrutiny but what we got was aesthetics instead of story.

Just got finished watching the deleted scenes & the movie would have made way more sense & flowed better with them,
[Show spoiler]especially the fight with the engineer because when I saw this in the theaters, the first thing I thought when he breached the air lock was where the hell did her ax go & why didn't she use it

+1.
[Show spoiler]Not only the extended fight scene, but also the Engineer's conversation with David should have been left in as well.
