Should've got nominations for cinematography and production design.

I think Michael Fassbender should have got an Oscar nod. I'm happy that this film got at least one nom, though.

Fassbender was great. While I really enjoy this movie, I don't think I would have enjoyed it NEARLY as much as I do if Fassbender wasn't David. He stole every scene and other then Shaw was the only character I really cared about.

Nominating this for cinematography would've been a repetition of the Avatar situation. The film's strongest visual moments are effects, not live-action, which is pretty unremarkable IMO.

Frankly, this statement is bullshit. What film did you watch? Divorce yourself from the problems of the script and you're going to tell me that this film wasn't tops in production design and cinematography?

The cinematography in this film kills anything James Cameron tried to attempt in Avatar.

Disagreed. The cinematography was outstanding. If anything, Ridley Scott is a very visually talented director. Prometheus got snubbed for production design and cinematography IMO. Sound design and supporting actor should have gotten a nod too.

What sequences are incredibly shot?
I felt like most of the film's visual mojo was the art direction, not the lighting and camera work. Which was competent, just not outstanding.

Did you watch the documentary on the blu-ray release? I was very impressed with how much of this movie was shot using practical effects.

No, I don't own the blu-ray, just going by my theatrical viewing.
Maybe the visually strong sequences I saw were achieved in-camera, I don't know. If they were, perhaps it deserves it. But it's a tricky question attributing the visuals in an effects-heavy movie to cinematography. In the case of Avatar I heard 60% of the film was in the can before the Oscar-winning DP was even hired.

I love the extra's on the Blu, like showing how they made the ampules and the designing of the engineers. And the time lapse building of the space jockey chair! Lots of neat stuff, it's one of my fav Blu-ray sets.

Did anyone else get the version from Target with the mini art booklet?

Prometheus is on the shortlist of best-looking 3D films. The sense space is so well defined in the picture. The Sound Design has just as much to do with this immersion too and would have got my vote as well. I really enjoyed the picture, yeah, and you can knock Prometheus for its faults, but the cinematography and production design don't fall on that ledger.

Prometheus in 3D for the win.
Totally agree! I saw Prometheus in the theater and was underwhelmed by the so-subtle 3D. Having purchased Prometheus 3D a few months ago on sale (because I read here how great the 3D was on the BD version), I finally unwrapped it last night and watched it. Sensational movie-so much better at home on my Sony 55HX729. No gimmicky pop-outs but wonderfully immersive and atmospheric. The 3D worked much better at home and I'm very glad I bought it. I watched about an hour of the extras and there are many more hours to see. Impressed.

Greetings, fellow A/V gear and movie enthusiasts. Long time user of the site, but this is my first forum post.

I recently picked up Prometheus on BD, not the 3-D version, and noticed what seems to be either a very "hot" audio mastering or some other sound glitches that may have been overlooked by the studio. I'm wondering if I'm just hearing something that sounds wrong, but maybe actually should be in there.

Around the 25 minute mark, the Prometheus ship is scouting out possible landing areas, and the Charlie character points out a place to land with "straight lines." The captain makes a comment, and shortly thereafter, during an exterior shot, I hear a very noticeable, garbled, distortion-type noise in the FL and C channels.

The noise sounds like clipping, and, while the example above is easily found, throughout the entire landing sequence you can hear other, similar distortion sounds during exterior shots.

Needless to say, when I first heard this, worries about my home theater equipment sprang to mind. I swapped FL and FR cables, and the noise showed up on the FR side, eliminating the speaker as the cause. I borrowed a friend's BD player and still heard it, so it's not my source unit. To make sure it wasn't my A/V receiver, I went to my friend's place, and found the exact same noise on his system. Sigh of relief.

Anyway, given all the attention and praise for this BD's sound quality, I'm surprised I haven't heard more about this. Anyone else out there hear what I hear? I also picked up a rental BD and the same glitch is present on that copy, too.

FYI, I'm listening on GoldenEar Triton Two FL/FR towers, GoldenEar center and surrounds, an Intel Sandy Bridge HTPC, and a Marantz SR5007 receiver.

I've seen this three times and never noticed it. Did you try changing your player output from bitstream to PCM to see if it made a difference?
