yep, pretty disappointing overall

I wasn't particularly a fan of the script for Prometheus, but why does Damon Lindelof only get the blame for the ending of Lost? Doesn't Carlton Cuse share some of the blame seeing as he was co-showrunner?

Blame? What was wrong with the ending of Lost? I thought it was awesome.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the finale as well. I enjoyed the show because of the characters and not exactly the mysteries. But when people talk about why the finale sucked, Damon Lindelof recieves all of the blame. It has never made sense to me seeing as he wasn't the only showrunner.

Ok. I thought it was more Lost bashing. As for me I loved everything about the show. I even loved Prometheus!

Pointing out obvious flaws, inconsistencies, and "huh" moments isnt hating its simply calling it like ya see it. The same could be said for fans of the film: "Lovers gonna love..." meaning those that are convinced this is a masterpiece ignore the issues and get something out of it. Thats fine, but it works both ways.

As a stand-alone sci-fi film its OK I suppose but when compared to Alien & Aliens it comes up way short. No hating, just saying. The issues have been touched on a zillion times and we arent making them up. When you read the same complaints from several viewers on several differentmovie sites its hard to ignore them or dismiss them as "hating".

Every time I check in with this thread I back off of buying Prometheus. There's just such a vehement clash between Beliebers and Haters that it's difficult to find the kind of "balance" which would guide a rational purchase decision (other than to go for the 3D version with the extra disc). This might be worse than the TDKR thread in its heyday.

If it helps, I happened to think it was one of the best films released last year. Also keep in mind, I only became a fan of original Alien films recently, so they aren't untouchable classics in my view so I was able to appreciate this film alot more than some jaded Alien fans.

I think it's right up there with the best sci-fi/horror films. As many have stated there were too many people with certain expectations that were downright unattainable. So, those people left the film feeling cheated for not getting exactly what they wanted. That's all there is to it. If you view this individually on its own merits it is a well made film. The problem is that too many people want to compare it to their set of wild expectations.

Count me in with the Prometheus lovers. It was the only tentpole/Blockbuster other than Skyfall on my top 20 of 2012 (which consisted mostly of art house films). I was fine with the sketchy plot.

Don't ever call Prometheus fans "Beliebers".

Watch the damn movie already. You're going to enjoy it on its own merits.

Also a fan of the movie. I really enjoyed it and thought it had so much good things going for it than bad. I didnt mind that there were lots of "unanswered questions". Made it so much more interesting for me

Thanks, guys, I'm in!

RJ : Sorry, dude. The guys been in the news a lot lately what with the Ann Frank fiasco and the nude "cuddle" sketch, he must've been on my mind & it somehow seemed funny at the time when I was only poking fun at the intensity of the argument. However, the guy's not my cuppa joe and I'd be insulted to be compared to him, so ... I do apologize.

Ironicly I gave Prometheus a second chance viewing just the other day. First viewing I wasn't a hater, but was un-sure of what I just saw. Having my girl talk it down, during and after, cuz she hated it didn't help me mentally digest the movie either. Watching again without any distractions I was close to loving it. Maybe it's cuz I knew what was coming, but it felt much shorter and made much more sense, making a far more enjoyable experience. Maybe some other haters need to give it that second viewing for a fair chance.
