For instance, the scene where Vickers is shocked after she had to kill Charlie adds a LOT to that character, shows that she's still human under that hard corporate skin. I really don't understand Scott on this one - he usually makes great Director's Cuts, I think I missed a big opportunity here. He didn't have to name it "Director's Cut", just "Extended Edition", with more material seamlessly blended into the movie for the fans.

EDIT: now that I think about it, I'm actually tempted to do this myself... I have the tools since I work in the movie/video industry (software engineer). I just have to dump the whole parts and insert them at the right places.
I want this. Almost all of the deleted/alternate scenes deserve to be in the movie. The scene where Vickers
[Show spoiler]reveals she is the daughter of Weyland
is fantastic in the alternate extended scene. In the theatrical version, it's cut down to almost nothing. Also, the Engineer is almost completely better in any extended/alternate material.

Thing is, even if I do it, I can't really share it... if I release it, 20th century fox would be on my back faster than an alien can "facehug" a defenseless human.

Hint for Scott and Fox... if they do release an "extended edition" with all the deleted scenes edited in, I'll buy it without thinking twice, even though I already own the 3D edition. Yup, I'm ready to give you my money again. Take the hint, please. James Cameron did before you, and I don't regret even a cent of what I have given for the Avatar Collector, even though I already owned the normal edition (which I gave to family).

The fanedit scene is alive and well. Just thought I'd mention that. Fanedits are regularly shared and some studios don't seem too bothered by them as it is a grey area. Personally I wouldn't want to take the risk but there are many fanedits that are openly distributed and even discussed on blogs and radio shows (like Adywan's Star Wars Revisited).

Just letting you guys know.

As I was watching Prometheus on HBO earlier today, I realized that they were showing an open-matte version of the film (which was a very interesting watch btw).

Did anyone else know about this?

Sounds cool. I think more and more HD stations are doing this with movies. I know HBO shows Skyfall open matte too.

With open-matte - I know you see more of the top and the bottom, but do you lose any of the sides?

Not typically. Just look at many of Warner's and Paramount's catalog titles that were 1.85:1 on DVD, but are open matte to 1.78:1 on BD.

No, you are incorrect. Open matte does not involve stretching at all.

Wiki : A frame from a 35mm film print. Here, the picture is framed for the intended theatrical aspect ratio (inside the yellow box). Picture outside the yellow box is matted out when the film is shown in widescreen. For 4:3 television versions, a large portion of the picture can be used (inside the red box) with an open matte.

Yeah, open matte from 1.85:1 to 1.78:1 is not a problem for me even on TV. I will even tolerate a zoom from 1.85:1 to 1.78:1. And I'll say it: there is no stretching involved!

But open matte for Prometheus would be from 2.35:1 to 1.78:1 which can make the viewing experience very different from what you're used to.

Though I've not seen Prometheus on TV myself, I think some conversions like this work pretty well (Avatar comes immediately to mind) and some look really awful (I'm thinking Dawn Treader in particular).

Has anyone noticed that UK version of Prometheus to Alien, which had 2 different sets, now has the same picture for both on the amazon website? I wonder if that means that shirt/poster/cards will still be included... Or if the packaging will even be the same?

Its because the FX of Starship Troopers were much better then those Men in Black and still look fantastic today.

I think one of the key reasons they look so damn good in Starship Troopers is because they had extra post production time which meant attention to detail and plenty of fine tuning/enhancing.

I remember seeing this when it came out opening weekend. It was such a rush. I know it gets torn to pieces by loads of people but I still freaking love it. Also the first movie that motivated me to get a Blu-Ray player just so I could get the best picture quality available.

That 4 Disc set is still the crowning gem in my collection. Damn wonderful set.
