Nothing on LV-426 looks man-made.
+1

Jerry Goldsmith's score is sublime.

Prometheus is not a shot-for-shot remake of Alien. It exists in the same universe but like our own existence that universe is vastly different. The things in Alien look like everything you'd see in sci-fi movies from the mid-70's onward. It borrows heavily from Star Wars and other influences. It was made with late 70's technology. If it was made today it would be all CGI and designed with today's audience in mind. That entire blog was just a trash piece written to flame Prometheus without any actual thought or analysis. OMG Charlize Theron is to pretty!!!!!!!
There was no consistency between the two films. He's right about that. Alien nailed the look. Prometheus was supposed to take place decades before Alien but sported technology that was far more advanced than we saw in Alien. They should have toned down the look of the technology so they didn't look more advanced than in Alien. 3D image mapping, the "pups", the advanced cryo tubes - it's all far more advanced than in Alien, yet it shouldn't be. I can buy that the mining ship might not have had the absolute state-of-the-art tech, being an industrial ship, but the look in Prometheus is just too clean - it looks too much like "new Star Trek". And the space suits were pretty lame compared to Alien. It all goes back to the general production design. he didn't like it, and I don't like it much myself.

The moon is far from a useless rock of nothing. It will prove to be a stepping stone for our journey into the stars, if we can ever get our act together down here.

I think you've pretty much explained the reason why.

The Nostromo is essentially a mobile factory in space, it's not really going to be pristine looking or be in the best of conditions.

It makes more sense that a science vessel would look much better and be in better condition.

For all we know the Nostromo could be older than the Prometheus.

You are going on and on about your own subjective opinion about what YOU think the universe should look like. Stating anything from that blog as being right just makes your argument look worse. You don't like it. So be it. But because you don't like that a science mission with all the latest tech looks to pretty and clean compared to a old, ugly factory doesn't mean the production design was a failure. In fact, it succeed quite well considering how much it gets your panties in a knot.

50 year old factories look NOTHING like a state-of-the-art science lab. Neither likely do the clothes the people working in each wear. Or the tools they use. There's likely still people out there reading this on Windows 2000. The factories around me still look like they did in the 50's when they were built. Yes they have modern computers in them, but they also haven't been drifting through space for decades either. Your points all fail to grasp any common-sense reality and rather just enrage your own opinion.

As for the moon being useless, well, it is pretty much. The point still stands that so much has changed in our world in 30 years yet we aren't anywhere near deep space hypersleep travel. Plenty more "normal" stuff will change before we ever achieve that mission as well.

Is there any reason why you sound so angry? It's just a discussion. Everything people post in here is opinion for the most part. That should be obvious. We can do without the attitudes in here.

And no, the moon isn't useless. That's not an opinion.

Scientists are about to discover that this thread can put people into a deep space hyper-sleep.

I think for most part the technology in Prometheus can be explained that everything is state-of-the-art and the best money can buy but that stuff should have been left to Vickers' life-pod. The main ship should have had some throwbacks.

Hyper-sleep could be terrible, though, you start your journey's naptime with Windows 7 and wake up to Windows 8. I'd be drinking that black-goo from The X-Files just to make the pain go away ...

Technically, it's a tug pulling a factory behind it.

Whoa there. The moon is anything but a worthless rock. It's helped us understand the history of our planet, given us a testing platform for missions to other planets, regulates the tides, and draws in some of the potentially dangerous rocks that would have otherwise hit us (it's also come in handy for werewolves).

Somebody needs a drink, and it ain't me.
