Somebody posted this on another board, but they failed to identify the source, so I don't know how reliable it may be, but still...

Prometheus is now up for pre-order on iTunes, including a sneak peek at the Prometheus iTunes Extras & Scenes menu. A couple of the preview images suggests a runtime of 2:39:09 as opposed to the 2:04:02 length stated in the iTunes information section.
Prometheus has a expected iTunes release date (HD) of Sep 18, 2012.
Worth mentioning, I guess.

Just seems so odd that that's only over a week from now and there's still no information on the subject...that's what makes me doubt it. Surely we'd know about an extended version before it's released.

Again, I think the iTunes version just has the deleted scenes (35 min.) running after the feature. I do not think this indicates an extended cut.

I checked iTunes and, indeed:

Could be the added runtime of the feature + extras, as someone pointed, or an actual extended cut. We will have to wait to find out.

According to the runtime listed on the iTunes page, the runtime for the film is 2:04:02, so that extra time must just be the deleted scenes/other extras.

Doubt it's an actual extended cut, which would be awesome. Either way I'm picking up the Collector's Edition day 1.

Yeah I think people are hoping for too much.
That run time is probably just the movie + deleted scenes total run time instead of them being added back in.

Yeah, that may be so, and I am the first one to think an actual extended cut is unlikely.

But then again, it makes no sense having that number for the runtime on the "Scenes" menu unless...

We still will have no idea what the actual cover art is until Fox releases their press release. I'm hoping it's the Engineer head. That cover was beautiful.

So can anyone point out any films that have had the extras shown after the feature? I don't want to get my hopes up either for the extra scenes to be implemented into the movie, but I've never heard of the deleted scenes being shown after the feature (and included in the run time)

I get what Fox is trying to do by releasing this early on digital download, but personally I'm just going to wait for the blu-ray (like I'm sure many on here will). I feel that digital download services are still to restrictive on playing content, and it is so much easier to bring a blu-ray over to a friends house then to try and sign into a digital service and hope the internet connection stays consistent throughout so we wont have to deal with buffer issues or quality drops. Just my two cents.

But I do plan on picking this up day one for sure! I saw this three times in the theaters and loved it!

Also, did anyone else notice that the site now has the release date listed for October 11th (Thursday). I found that a bit odd. Sorry if that was already mentioned.

That was mentioned months ago. Also, Fox isn't the only company to release stuff early on digital download. Many others are doing it, like Lionsgate who released The Cabin in the Woods on Sept. 4th while the Blu is scheduled for Sept. 18th.
