There was always rumored to be a sequel. So much negativity surrounding the movie is because of the plot hole argument. Hopefully the blu ray and upcoming movie will answer some questions.

Depends on the type of viewer you are, buy if you like visually striking, mood pieces, this film is more Blade Runner than Alien. If you care much about logic then rent first. I personally didn't care if much went unexplained because I felt that was germaine to it's central premise. What gives this film it's depth isn't it's plot, it's the shots of characters looking toward an infinite, pulsating, unknown space.

It made you think. So often times people want everything spoon fed to them.

I'm really getting sick of how often this is thrown around when talking about this movie! Seriously, 90% of average moviegoers couldn't care less about how the good the "script" was. I have NEVER once recommended a film based on this. (well maybe Boogie Nights )

(for the record, IMO the scrip was great, so I have no idea where the criticism comes from)

I thought it was a great sci-fi movie with amazing visuals & great acting.

But nevertheless, this is worth a blind buy. Just don't expect what you think the story is, and be disappointed when it isn't.

The extras though sound really good so I will if not at first, eventually buy this.

I pretty much agree with everyone's comments. It is a great movie, but like others have said don't expect and Alien film. I am a huge fan of the first 3 Alien films and this one is a perfect prequal to them, however it is very different, very original and quite unique in the style in which it is filmed. It's a lot of fun if you like sci-fi films and you keep your mind open to anything. This is completely different in every way from the original Alien movies, however it is based in the same universe. It is an amazing film and I cannot wait to own it on Blu-ray 3D. I saw it 3 times in the theater, 2 of which were on release day, all in 3D and it is quite an impressive movie.

If that sounds like the type of movie you would be interested in, then yes, blind buy.

I agree, I loved it and watched it twice. First in IMAX 3D and then standard 3D.
People who went in wishing it was going to be a Alien movie are the ones who are disappointed. I went in with open mind and loved it! Its my fav movie of the year so far.

The alien universe hints just make it that more special and then the ending just made me even more excited for the sequel! Alien fans will like the ending but its not a Aliens movie.

Personally, the only thing I really wish is that the final scene with the Deacon had not been included. That's the one scene that screams "Alien Prequel!" The film really is it's own thing and to end it like that feels rather tacked on. I think I would have liked it as a deleted scene, but I really think it should have been left out.

I personally loved it. It's my 2nd favorite of the year behind TDKR. I really liked the plot and how it made you consider different theories on the story. I might even like it more than Alien, and that's a high benchmark for sure.

I see the reasons why you think that scene should have been cut, but personally I love it. It actually scared me when I saw it in theaters.

I've kept away from posting about and defending this film in its various threads because I was beginning to feel like I was talking to brick walls. But I totally agree with this post in regards to this film.

By the way, it's still the best film I've seen all year.

Right on, haha. I've never recommended a film to a casual fan on this basis either.

I do see some of the legit complaints some have for this film's script, but they don't bother me largely because I feel the direction overcomes any such shortcomings.

Now when it comes to The Dark Knight Rises, that's a different story on all fronts.

I thought it had plenty enough "tie-in's" to make it an Alien movie.

Sure there are connections. It takes place in the Alien universe and has tie ins because it's a prequel. With that said , the movie is not about Xenomorphs. It's a different genre and path than The Alien series took. It's a stand alone series more than anything.

It's a prequel to Alien but, not an Alien movie. It's still pretty awesome, though.

And that's what I personally loved about the movie. It had the Alien "DNA" if you will, but it could stand on it's own. Of course, it helped that so much of the imagery was great. It wasn't the best in the Alien franchise, as I still give that to Cameron's Aliens, but considering how bad 3 and 4 were, it was a very refreshing look at the story for me.
