This is partially incorrect. The 2D set will have some special features. We need a press release to know exactly what edition will have what features.

Exactly.

The idea of being forced to buy a useless 3D disc (IMO) to watch all the 2D features is so lame, I can't find the words.

Well, technically, 3D viewers are forced to buy 2D discs when they make their purchases, so.....

Just playing devil's advocate.

Or movie watcher are paying for useless "special features"

I believe in the want more your likely going to pay more. So maybe you are paying for the ultra packed special features version collection and they are throwing in a 3d disk for free or you are buying a special collectors edition 3d version and they are throwing in a 2d disk for free.

You know this justify higher cost game is kinda fun

Full disclosure I've got the Special Uber packed 3D version comming and it looks like they are throwing in a 2D copy for me to use on my Laptop when I'm on the road. Awsome

Thanks,
T

What I find odd about that, is you can play 3D discs perfectly fine in 2D.

It's a waste of a 2D disc.

I agree. I hope the report is false because this is a d*ck move by the studio!

Disney has been doing it for years, think Pirates 4 and Cars 2 etc.

Actually unless you are running a HTPC or laptop with powerdvd or the likes a 3D disc wont play in 2D. Most are now locked so they wont playback unless they find a 3d tv and player.

With a 3D TV and player, you can play a 3D disc in 2D.

You just switch off the 3D and it's plays exactly like the 2D disc. I've done it a few times.

Whilst true the picture quality isnt the same as playing the 2D. Its doing a conversion from 3D back to 2D. The image is efected, at least thats the case on my active 3d screen. You get a coloured speckled effect and the image offcentered.

Default loved the 3d in this movie

I don't know why people hate on 3d so much, the 3d in this movie was stunning. There may not have been a ton of "in your face effects", but it added depth to this film already great cinematography. I am still at odds as to how I actually feel about the over all movie, but will still be a day one purchase. This is a movie that needs tons of special features to make up for the unanswered questions in the movie

I am not really into the current 3D craze, nor am I too pleased about having to pay extra for extras in a 3D combo pack when I don't own a 3D TV. However, if I ever do own a 3D TV (perhaps one day it will be standard?), Prometheus is one of the only movies I would ever want to watch on it so I might as well already own a 3D copy for when that day arrives.

Did you find any info on that since? I'm wondering the same thing, but there's no info.

I loved the 3D theatrically, but don't have or want a 3D setup at home. Having said that...I may bite on the 3D combo & just trade the 3D disc.

Can't say I'm surprised some 3D combos have exclusive content - studios have been using the same hook to promote BDs over DVDs for a while.

I'm surprised there's no word of store exclusives yet.

Does anyone have any theories for why there hasn't been a press release yet? I want to resist making any negative comments about 3D-only extras, lack of Director's Cut, etc., until I see some official news. Something tells me, though, that the studio will indeed pull a d**k move and force people to buy some uber-edition if they want to own the definitive version. I would be happy with a movie-only disc for now and would be more than happy to grab a DC reissue down the road if there's going to be one.
