I thought this was a great movie. I will be getting this day 1. May actually go see it again in the theater which I never do.

I've heard many people say they wanted this scene, but wouldn't it have been pointless? There wasn't a romance subplot between them or anything.

1. The dreams sequence. David can watch Shaw's dreams. Amazingly this technology also cuts from scene to scene like a movie camera...Please. No one dreams like that.

2. How did they randomly find the temple so quick? This is an entire planet surface!

3. Why was the landing so soft and easy?

4. Why does Fifield start screaming at Shaw like that? Calm down mate..jeez..And later on with an Alien cobra he is cool as ice.

5. Why does that moron Buddy Holly scientist try and touch the cobra alien? not once....not twice...but 3 TIMES!!!

6. Why on earth would a scientist remove their helmets in a possibly infected temple? I am just a civilian and even I understand the concept of VIRUS CONTAMINATION ON AN ALIEN FRIGGIN PLANET. They then have the cheek to talk about Shaw's strict quarantine fail-safe procedures...please

7. What does this Black Goo do exactly? Accelerate worm growth? Infect crew members? Cause pregnancies? Create life? Pick one and stick to it please

8. Why does Ford straight away start giving the head electricity for kicks? Do they not have procedures? What is this fun with Frankenstein?

9. Why does the head explode?

10. Why are the medical staff so damn careless with a possibly disease ridden and bacteria infested decapitated head? I swear they didn't even wear plastic gloves.

11. How did Shaw know the Jockey was heading to Earth to destroy it? Pretty big assumption from a couple of punches thrown.

Here's the exact quotes from Scott on what will be on the Blu-ray and the deleted scenes:

1. Alot of these so called questions actually do have an answer. Does not take a lot of thinking.

2. Name me one sci-fi film that EXPLAINS everything thing to you??? It is not all supposed to make sense or be based in reality.

3. It is pretty obvious that this movie was set up for at least one sequel. So that would also make it kinda obvious as to why supposed questions are left unanswered.

Charlize Theron is definitely eye candy, well I shouldn't say that since she's also a phenomenal actor. The actress in the film I'm not attracted to is Rapace, she just strikes me as very mediocre.

Again this all comes down to what kind of character you are. You see the captain as a very honorable man, but he is still not perfect.

It was one of those moments where you honestly can't believe it happened.

Some questions that are bound to come up:

[Show spoiler]1. How did the creature grow? You can't possibly know the growth rate of a creature like that. Also, how did a chestburster grow in less than 4 hours?
2. How did the creature die? This is a question I would like an answer to.
3. It said 2 minutes of Oxygen, how is she still breathing? Didn't you notice the things that she was packing, maybe that was oxygen.

Once again, I am not saying that this movie is perfect, but it was amazing for me, and def. the best movie I've seen in 2012. Hunger Games and Avengers are not far away. That being said, a lot of people who went to see this expected more because FOX advertised the heck out of the second half of the movie, so people thought that there was more. And I bet you that while they were watching this movie, they were looking for clues that link this to the ALIEN franchise..

[Show spoiler]I mean, its enough that Scott altered the initial design of the proto-xeno to fit the xenomorph we all know for the fans.

Lindolf should not be blamed for the script, he is getting way too much bad mouth for it.. Remember that there is another writer beside him and that Scott ultimately chooses what he wants in or out.

[Show spoiler]The problem I have with some of these plot holes is the inability of people to think for themselves if its not spelled out for them. Not everything that happens has to do so in front of the camera. The amount of exhibition needed to cover every possible plot hole would ruin the movie. For instance the plot hole about them finding the installation as soon as they touched down. Whose to say they didn't use some technology to scan the planet for anomalies and choose that area. They quite possibly may have filmed such a sequence and cut it for time. Does a character really have to explain this in a exhibition scene or it be shown on screen for it not to be a plot hole.

As far as people don't dream like that (#1) The movie established that David watch's movies. Its quite possible he can read someones subconscious while they are asleep and chooses to cut through the dream like a movie camera. Not that the individual actually dreams like that.

I'm not saying that there aren't any plotholes. Vickers running from the crashing ship is one IMO. Maybe she had a Zoolander imoment. Instead of not being able to turn right she can't sidestep.
Maybe she was stuck in a trench that was just hard to see at that angle. Who knows, but IMO it doesn't ruin the movie. On the contrary I want to see it again to see if I can answer all of these questions.

For instance somehow the crew decided all of these alien weapons were destined for earth before something went wrong. I'm not sure how they came to this conclusion.

I believe Shaw says at the end that is why she wants to go to their homeworld to get a answer to that very question. Its meant to be answered in the sequel.

I can appreciate all the replies and answers, but you'll never convince me that some of these things were not the result of sheer laziness on the part of the filmmakers. As Hitchcock use to call them "our friends, the plausibles". Yes, a longer cut would likely do better to explain a few things, and yes I'm willing to forgive some things, especially in sci-fi, that may not make sense. I can forgive little niggly things here and there...it's a movie after all.

I think if someone else had made this, and not Ridley Scott, you'd be a little harder on the film as it is. That's what pisses me off the most...he should care more about getting these kinds of things right after all this time and sequels, etc. I really wanted to like this film more than I did. I liked it more than others I've talked to - they hated it! And some loved it, too. I love 2001, which is very hard to follow and too boring for some people.

11. How did Shaw know the Jockey was heading to Earth to destroy it? Pretty big assumption from a couple of punches thrown.

12. How does David know the Space Jockey is heading to kill Shaw on the Medical Bay?

14. i was really amazed that Shaw has this 'baby' but fails to mention the horrific and super extraordinary situation she had just been through. ''oh hey guys, ha ha, nearly forgot. FYI, you won't believe what just happened to me on the way here''....''i just gave birth to an alien..'' ''yeah, i know CRAZY right, considering i had sex only 10 BLOODY HRS AGO!!''

17. HUGE ONE…How the hell does Shaw walk after abdominal surgery? If abdominal muscle is cut you can NOT walk, the muscle needs to be sewn back…But no, a few staples and she is good to go…

18. Why does the tentacle creature have tentacles from the evil Planet X?

19. Why do the space jockeys allow any old tramp to walk in an use their security systems?

20. Why does the space jockey want to kill, kill and kill…You'd think an advanced race would be a little civilised?

21. What was the point of Guy Pearce as Weyland? Why was he even there? So he just assumed this temple would contain a fountain of life…..right….I guess he 'chose to believe' too…f**k me…

Honestly there are so many more I can't even write them all…But this movie has more plot-holes than the Iraqi Navy

22. Why hire Guy Pearce and put him in bad old man makeup? Aren't there real old men actors?

23. Vickers and Capt go have sex and leave no one on the bridge while a sand storm rages and two of the crew is stuck in the cave.

24. Vickers killed by falling ship when if she just run SIDEWAYS a few feet it would've missed her.

25. Vickers auto-med machine is for men only? Hmmmm..it's for her, in her quarters, yet for men only? WTF?

26. If the guys were lost in the caves, why didn't they radio for help? And when they returned after getting attacked, the crew just opens the door, not knowing who it is.

Several of the questions he mentions were answered in the movie. The rest are just the nitpicky ravings of a buffoon who has no common sense.

lol yeah...some of those things are explained in the film rather clearly and some aren't.

Now I have no problem saying there is some headscratching stuff that happens in this film but alot of it has to do with some poor characterization.

I've given my rating as a strong 3.5/5

Look, I don't agree with everything this person wrote either. However, if you scoll through the reviews on IMDB you will find many people with similar arguments. You will also find many like you who loved it. So, who's right? We all are.
