There's no way of knowing for sure that there will be a better extended version later on... others seem to think we'll get one perhaps by the time we get the sequel, which might be too long of a wait for some people to hold off...

Considering this is one of those all out Ridley Scott special edition packages (ala Blade Runner, the Alien Anthology, the Kingdom of Heaven 4 Disc DVD Set, etc.), I can't imagine we'll ever be getting a "Director's Cut". There might be a possibility that years down the road, the studio will pressure Ridley into doing an alternate cut, just as they did with Alien and Gladiator. But it's clear now that Ridley is happy with the 2 hr. 4 min. length, and that it is his director's cut.

If he was going to release a longer cut a year down the road, I honestly believe we wouldn't be getting this kind of elaborate package with commentaries, a feature length documentary, etc. Most certainly, I think they'd hold off on all the deleted and alternate scenes until the release of the longer cut. But they're not. This release pretty much has everything you could imagine on it. Just look at this list of supplements!

Obviously, opinions about Ridley's cut will continue on - but I truly believe this is the definitive release of the film.

Notice how there are only 10 minutes worth of deleted scenes on the dvd menu.
What about the other 24 minutes???
Here is my thought regarding this that possibly the other 24 min are incorporated back into the movie???
Why would the dvd version only get 10min deleted scenes and not everything??
Remember we have not had an official press release yet regarding this movie's release on blu ray..

It's to encourage consumers to go blu. We've seen the back cover of the Swedish 3D edition and the runtime is 124 min. We're not getting an extended cut.

Because most DVDs nowadays get pretty much zero special features. Almost everything is exclusive to Blu now. I don't see how this would be shocking.

They Live, Dark Star, TNG Season 2, Halloween III, Prometheus, Indiana Jones, Reanimator, Killer Klowns from Outter Space, Fun House, Terror Train are all on my radar at this time. I can hold off on everything except the first four, but I'm even thinking of waiting on H3 at this point so that I can fit Prometheus in.
