Can't wait to get the 3D set. Only saw this once in theaters and have been dying to watch it again since.

They have a lot of great character moments in those scenes that I think the movie would have benefited from. Each time I've seen the movie, I've felt that there was a missing element to Idris Elba's performance - and that scene between him and Charlize Theron is it. The background we get on his character in that scene perfectly informs his decisions in the rest of the film. Still, even if it's not in the movie - it's great to have the scene presented on the set and to be able to factor that material into the rest of his performance.

Likewise, the added material in the Vickers/Weyland scene is wonderful and greatly humanizes Vickers - and also allows us to feel sympathy for Weyland.
Indeed. Janek's story was a great bit of character development... really disappointing that it was left out. Oh well.

were the deleted/extended scenes on the Blu-ray the same as the rumored Extended Cut or was there additional content for that?

The fabled directors cut is an Internet forum creation.

watching the movie in the theater I have no doubt a lot of content was stripped...I'm sure Ridley has another version out there which goes into more depth on the Engineers etc...the movie as is feels incomplete...like they were setting up a sequel versus giving us all the answers

very true, but even the edits in the theatrical version seem jarring and sloppy. It's like the theatrical cut of 'Kingdom of Heaven' which I hated, the extended cut made me appreciate the movie more, and on a whole new level.

That's still speculation and opinion. There has never been confirmation of any of that.

I figure if we are getting deleted scenes and Fox put so much effort into this release then there is no more footage.

For anyone interested...NECA is now shipping the Series 1 Prometheus figures. Some are already available on eBay for a decent price. I should have my Engineers on Monday or Tuesday. According to the people I talked to at Toys R Us and FYE, the figures should be on store shelves by next Thursday.

Series 2 (David, Holloway, Deacon) should be available in November.

Also, NECA recently updated their twitter feed to indicate that there are no current plans for anything beyond Series 3 (Shaw, Vickers, Mutant Fifield), unless the figures sell really well. For what it's worth, I contacted NECA and put in a request for a plush Hammerpede and/or Trilobite while they have the Prometheus license.

If any of you would like a plush Cuddles, PLEASE feel free to bombard NECA with your requests.

Given he cut the film down so much to get more theatrical screenings in per day, I wouldn't be surprised to see a Director's Cut or Extended Cut in a few years. Probably when the sequel, if it happens, hits theaters. After all, there's extended cuts of most of his major films.

Yes, I agree with this.

Given that this is a release on par with the Alien Anthology, Blade Runner: The Final Cut, & the Kingdom of Heaven 4-disc DVD set - I honestly believe we'd be getting a director's cut if Ridley felt inclined to do one. Since we're not, I'd say that pretty much settles the matter. As far as Ridley's concerned, he delivered his Director's Cut to theaters.

The sequel has already been announced.
Also, if even there ever is an extended cut at some point it would just be reinserting the deleted scenes that will already be available on this release, so there really is no need to worry about ever not seeing one

Excellent. I've also got $15 worth of RZ certificates to put towards it.

That first week will probably be the best time for the 3D edition. Can't imagine it being any later this week, or even by Christmas.

Time to start picking out some old DVDs!!

If it's like avengers, then probably $29.99, but I'm hoping they at least drop it to $24.99.
