Default Free Blu-ray Player With Purchase Of Any Hdtv Display Marketing Idea

Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, Pioneer and other companies could sale many BLU-RAY players this Christmas if they changed their marketing strategy.

1. Sony could increase the price of all their HDTV displays $300 and then bundle a low cost BLU-RAY player with every HDTV display they sale this Christmas. On the Sony website if every HDTV display listed mentioned a free BLU-RAY player is included then everyone that buys a HDTV display would also own a BLU-RAY player.

2. Panasonic, Samsung, and Pioneer could offer similar bundle deals that included a free BLU-RAY player with a purchase of a HDTV display. Of course the list price of HDTV displays would go up in price if a free BLU-RAY player is included with every HDTV display. Toshiba could offer a similar deal for HD-DVD but since they are the only company currently making standalone players they would be totally crushed since most people are going to choose another brand besides Toshiba. Toshiba is only one company.

Good idea. Players are like printers. The greatest profit is from the things you put into the machine. I think Sony is the only one who can take advantage of that fact. Maybe we can get one of the other manufacturers to buy a studio.

Don't worry about that. You'll see plenty of Blu/flat panel combos this Xmas

Best Buy had an offer similar to a "free" bluray player with an HDTv...

If you purchase a 40-inch 1080p Sony LCD HDTV, plus a PS3 game, plus a Blu-ray movie, and a PS3, you end up getting the whole shebang for $2086.96 before taxes. The deal ends up giving you $600 in savings, thus equalling the cost of a PS3

Of course, the deal is over and they made it into a complete MATH test instead of just saying "FREE PS3"...

But I wonder how well it worked out?

Heck they wouldn't really have to increase the price of their TV's at all. The margin's on HDTV's are pretty high and they could afford to bundle a Blu-ray player with keeping the cost at the same price point or just ever-so-slightly higher. Of course who knows how much of those margins are going to subsidize the cost of their blu-ray player anyways...

Looks like they were either listening or realised it was a no-brainer:

Hmmm.... I would expect "Free" or hugely discounted Blu-Ray player deals with purchases of an HDTV before and during the yearly HDTV football push. Imagine free players with HDTV's during Thanksgiving sales.

With all this news today (being day 1) I can see why Toshiba pushed the $150 million dollar panic button.
