No response as to my query about Ken R.? I must be thinking of another guy from back in-the-day.

Robert, if Kevin M. does show up for your 4K/UHD HDR event, as an aside, I’d heard he was attempting a 3500 point LUT for a Panasonic VT plasma (client monitor in a post facility)…..ask him how that turned out [thru the Fuji (IS Mini)]. Inquiring minds, you know.

Current owners of EG9600s have an option to replace or repair. Repair will involve power board/panel replacement in August.

I wonder if current owners of displays with the defect have an option to return/refund and rebuy new displays at the new lower price?( LG 65EG9600.) Price dropped $2,000 recently.
AV Forum member received a replacement display (55EG960V) July build, serial number beginning with 507:

" •July 2015 build
•Software version 03.03.62
•No obvious uneven tinting on 100% slide
•No obvious banding on any slides
No obvious dark edges on a 5% slide"

He plans to take photos with content later. See EG960V owner's thread on AVForum (UK) for more.

I'm always ready for all high-end video displays and hope to have one of the 1st mass production units.

Very exciting times ahead with WCG, 10bit panels, HDR and what will likely be the best UHD experiences, UHD BD!

Now that's a set I'm going to want to see. I'm surprised it's Vizio, but I'll take quality where I can get it.

But I don't know what you expect Robert to do, aside from leaving a space on the wall, before he can get his hands on such a set (and content to show it off).

Just received a note from Robert. My Samsung 9500 has been broken-in and QCd. Tomorrow or next day Kevin Miller and/or David Mckenzie will calibrate the set and then, it will be shipped.

Cannot wait. I am getting excited.

I didn't want the curve but I have been going to Best Buy watching the 9500 and the 9100 series trying to get use to it and I have done it. The curve will be OK. For me the curve is a better choice over Sony's 75" 940c with the speakers stuck on the sides of the set like wings making the TV too wide for where it has to hang.

Planning on getting the video pack and downloading UHD HDR movies from M-GO? If so, I would like to hear your thoughts, perhaps in a new thread.

You may want to review this thread regarding the UHD downloads:

Thanks Ray

I started the mentioned thread regarding Mgo and there seems to be a lot of problems with it but it may be fixed. I'm on the 4th post page and there are 28 more to go.

Thanks for the heads up

Yes, most of the issues were worked out and people seem impressed with the downloads. There was an issue with the video packs from China, but the Korean video packs work. Also some issues with 2014 SUHD displays, but not the 2015s. Downside is the length of time it takes to download the 100 GB files. Good luck with your new purchase.

@Jim Shaw:

This WD drive is mentioned in the AVS Forum thread. Is it too late for you to get this free?

"The WD My Passport Cinema UHD movie storage drive, which has a 1-terabyte capacity, is listed at $89.99 and includes a one-year limited warranty. Additionally, the device will be included free with purchases of Samsung JS9000, JS9100 or JS9500 SUHD TV models from Aug. 16, 2015, to June 30, 2016."

Hadn’t seen Robert post on his thread in quite awhile....just checking to see if he was still alive and kicking, i.e. the thread needed a bump.

I haven't received the 9500. Today or tomorrow, it is being calibrated but the receipt date is 07/20/15. It doesn't fit date wise for the WD.

Thanks for the thought but I will look into it further

I wonder if Robert can get the calibrator to give us some info on the M-GO UHD HDR downloads when he calibrates your display. It would be interesting to see some contrast measurements from the actual UHD HDR content on that display.

It seems likely that the positive reviews of the UHD HDR downloads will help Samsung sales of their SUHD displays. It is appealing that the cost of the drives is under $100 and the cost of the downloads are $30. That will compare favorably with UHD BR when it comes to market. And the UHD BR players will probably cost several hundred dollars.

I have read that the audio on Kingsman is DTS-HD 7.1

Should be interesting to see the inevitable comparisons between digital and physical UHD HDR quality.

Bring on the shootout.

I just received an e-mail from Kevin Miller. I asked him if SDR and HDR took one calibration or a separate calibration is needed for HDR and does HDR use a separate picture mode.

--------------------------------

Hi Jim,

That is a great question. I am waiting on specific training from Samsung on HDR and PQ gamma. I have a 65JS9500 through my work with Samsung. I can tell you that when I feed it HDR content it has a completely separately configured Movie mode from the calibrated SDR mode. It also looks really good even though I can't calibrate it yet. The other problem now is none of the signal generator manufacturers have not provided a product with HDR test signals and that's probably going to take a while.

------------------------------------

It seems like one should wait for awhile before paying for calibration. If Kevin (who is a Samsung consultant for PQ in the States) is not really up on HDR calibration, the guys at Best Buy wouldn't have a clue.
