rats. the seller is asking me for an additional 19,90€ postage. i can't do it, it's too much so i am asking to cancel my order.

you do not need to create a new account for ebay germany. just log in with your regular username/password.

Australia Aussie SteelBook Collectors: Storage

Hi all,

If you are like me then I imagine that you want to protect every SteelBook you buy from scratches and dents in order to maintain a flawless condition. I have had some real difficulty trying to locate someone that sells either a sleeve or box to store the SteelBook in here in Australia. I've purchased some sleeves, but like many have unfortunately experienced that tearing sensation.

Frustrated by the lack of permanancy, aethestics, durability and usability found with sleeves, I sought out an alternative that would cover all 6 faces of the SteelBook, not compromise the cleanliness of the design and enhance the qualities that make SteelBook so collectible. As a result of this, I've been able to engage a packaging company here in Australia to come up with a clear PVC box which will be made to the dimensions of a SteelBook allowing for a snug (but not too snug) fit. The product will be enclosed on all four sides, sealed at the bottom and have a closable tabbed top to seal the box. This will allow for the four sides of the SteelBook to be displayed without anything compromising the design. The base will be protected from scratches allowing the SteelBook to be placed on shelving and removed without damage. The top will be enclosed to stop dust from collecting on the actual SteelBook itself whilst still giving easy access and having no effect on re-usability.

As this is all in the preliminary stages at the moment I am starting this thread to try and get a feel for how many people may be interested in this product. At this point in time I don't have any info about cost etc as this project is still in its infancy. The cost may be dependent on how many I order so knowing if there is interest will be a determining factor. Their closest standard casing (which is too big) is a little over $1.50 per box. Due to postage costs, I'm not sure whether overseas shipping would be cost effective (hence the title of the thread) but if there's interest I'd certainly consider it.

I am expecting some contact from the company within the next 24-48 hours and if that proves to be positive they will move forward with a sample for me. In the interim, I am expecting that the product will look something similar to this (though obviously with the correct dimensions and standing up):

Let me know if this is even remotely of interest to anyone so I can gauge whether taking this further will be a good idea or not. I'm just hoping to have something that is purpose built for SteelBook protection rather than the DVD sleeves which are too big and prone to tearing. Hopefully the rest of you may be interested too...

Thumbs up

I know my local Future Shop uses those lockable, oversized (for blu-rays), plastic boxes for their steelbook retail sales. So, you might want to also gauge retailers perspective regarding a customized steelbook storage blu-case. Especially for those retailers that distribute so many of them, like FS. They could use them for their own retail displays and/or sell them to customers.

Personally, I haven't picked up any protective sleeves or cases yet, so I would be interested.

^ No worries. Once I hear back from the company I will post in hear to let you all know whether what I've asked of them is possible and whether it's cost effective also. If so, I'll get the sample made and when I receive it I will post photos.

are you looking for sleeves for steelbooks or blu-ray cases? the link you provided is for sleeves designed for standard amaray cases, not steelbooks.

Don't worry, those are the ones I use, and they fit SteelBooks perfectly.

I've tried them on my blu-ray steelbooks and they fit perfectly.
They fit better and are less prone to rips than the shop4tech ones.

I'm at work right now but I'll post them up as soon as I can.
I'll try to put them next to the shop4tech.com sleeves so you all can see the difference between the two.

I like the idea but the cost may be very high especially if someones got around a 100 steelbooks ($1.50x100=$150) in just sleeves.

That's a little rich for my taste.

Thanks, if my idea doesn't bear out then the sleeves you mention may be the best option depending on what they look like and how much they charge for international shipping.

As for my ones: yeah, they will be a little expensive (especially if you have many SteelBooks), but I figured that if quality sleeves are so hard to come by here in Australia then perhaps getting ones made that are to spec would be the best option. It would certainly be something unique as I've only ever seen ones of a slipcover style before, not ones that encompass all four sides and top and bottom.

Still, if you can take some pics of yours that would be great and they may be a very handy fall back position should the custom ones prove to be to expensive a product to produce.
