I’m received a lot of PMs about ‘the Sony hack’ especially since everything from emails from attorneys/chief counsels (http://gawker.com/sony-was-hacked-in...ent-1670025366 ) regarding previous security breaches to the latest just plain being insensitive/racist comments about President Obama in back-and-forth emails having been reported in the mainstream press (and even in my dentist’s office, for that matter, while I was in the waiting room listening to patients talking about it)...so I was asked if any *good* (to help the common man) information has been exposed in the hack.

In that regard, at this point, all I can think of is since VFX artists nowadays need all the help they can get in this industry, is that the contents of the Croner survey have apparently become available. Background….

is indeed a *niche* hobby/endeavor but that didn’t hamper the passion and enthusiasm of the backers (including me in my humble way) who helped fund the making of the film, i.e. 562 backers, exceeding the $150,000 goal…https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...le-lovett-rela . The Blu-ray actually just started shipping out last week in time for Christmas giving.

With regards to backing/funding projects in general, there’s a ‘Moving Image’ (think “the development of motion-imaging technology from the turn of the 20th century through the present while inquiring about what the future has in store”) SMPTE documentary project which was initiated just a couple days ago…https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/s...-moving-images

Background…http://www.prweb.com/releases/SMPTE/...eb12388694.htm

Hey Penton. Regaurding the Sony Studios hack I heard this morning that Sony is in some deep trouble due to the info that was stolen and emails that were stolen ect. They said some actors are pissed as hell and there may be some lawsuits involved. Things dont look good for Sony right now. Sony is taking a beating and I wonder how much longer they can survive.

I’m concerned….with regards to our investment, e.g. several days ago, my family sold off some of their SNE (http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/sne ) shares in anticipation that things are going to get worse before they get better and could spread from the peripheral nervous system (S Pictures) to the central nervous system (S Corp). For instance, several hours after I posted the VFX bit about the Croner survey, Variety did an article on Sony Animation and Imageworks which is none too flaterring….http://variety.com/2014/artisans/new...it-1201378259/

And articles exposing leaked emails considering litigating Bill Murray (Ghostbusters) to encourage his participation in the next Ghostbusters - http://www.thewrap.com/sony-hack-att...r-bill-murray/ are exposing the unsavory side of the business.

There has always been arrogance, for instance - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ve#post9553148 among some individuals in the major Hollywood studio system at the V.P. level and higher, whose ‘public’ credentials are otherwise spotless, which is not exclusive to Sony Pictures. Beyond the drama of it all, I feel mostly for the innocent folks who are just trying to pay their mortgages, make an honest living and the collateral damage which has been done to them especially regarding their Social Security numbers, confidential medical histories, etc. information of which will probably remain somewhere on the internet for perpetuity.

I don't think you have to worry about 'Pictures' not surviving, the question is how much damage will have been done to it before all is said and done. I've placed the $$ from our sold shares into developing property (subdividing parcels) we have on the East Coast.

Search word ‘negligence’….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post10123211
And so it begins….http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...215-story.html

I wonder how many people would at all mind the disruption in their daily activities by *having* to serve on jury service for that particular trial, if it comes to pass.

Anyway, something which the hackers weren’t successful at (at least I don’t think so) was the breaching the encryption of the Annie DCP, which is 4K…

LG has announced that they will release 4K TVs next year with quantum dot backlights and while LG didn't say anything about a wider color space it might be possible.

In my opinion this is a problem for more than just a single studio. With the announcement that The Interview won't be released it is a sad day for those who love freedom. Now that terrorists and tyrants know that they can blackmail/threaten the studios it only increases the chance that something like this will happen again.

So LG ‘sneaked out’ an announcement prior to CES. That, with the YouTube 4K videos, they’re getting pretty innovative at the marketing game. As to CES, what with there being 4 proposals for different HDR solutions submitted to ITU, I hope there are more HDR demos. As to Quantum Dot tech, it provides the most promise for wide color gamut capable LCDs so the LG news is a good thing. But like I said months ago, I would like to see BT.1886 supported in the video codec standards because in doing so, it would provide the most accurate color conversion between HD and UHD/4K.

Well it sure as hell is, as it’s being covered on every National News network as well as I would imagine, most local news affiliates across the country.

Anyway, from a single studio business perspective, IMO, poor judgment in greenlighting it in the first place, i.e. you don’t poke a bear, even if you think you are smarter than the bear and the bear is in a cage…for he can get out. I would have thought that power brokers in the motion picture business would have learned something from the ‘Innocence of Muslims’ reactions…http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer...bya-egypt.html

Never should have happened, the risk was not worth *the reward*….http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/m...view/19157105/

There really have got be better scripts out there than ‘The Interview’.

The "bear" didn't do anything in TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE when not only was Dear Leader killed, but the body's mouth opened up to reveal an interstellar cockroach that fled in a tiny spaceship.

Those "protests" have been debunked.

This is the AP mind you, not some right wing blog.

We killed Saddam twice in the HOT SHOTS films. Frank Drebin beat up the Ayatollah. Going after the Axis of Evil in our comedies has been going on for decades.

We caved to keyboard terrorists. Shameful.
