I doubt most people will even be experiencing 4k; given the reduced viewing distance requirements, thereby affecting their perspective of 4k vs 2k. At least with 3D, the difference is easily apparent to any one. Edit: I am enthusiastic about 4k Blu Ray. I find it hard to believe the enthusiasm shared by those in this thread with the wider public. Furthermore, I hope the uptake rate does not adversely affects 6k, 8k development. However, we need quality source media and UHD discs (which will be far better than streaming and downloads for quite some time) will need to deliver most of the potential goods at the outset or the format will fail and there won't be 6k or even 8k for a very long time. Brilliant 4k with 3D lossless audio would be fantastic and hold my attention for quite a while. |

Other than higher dynamic range and expanded colour gamut, the other thing I want most from Blu-ray is support for HFR 3D. 48 to 60fps.
I honestly don't really care about the actual 4K resolution, knowing there aren't many 4K titles to begin with. |

Well 48’s bean kicked around, see last paragraph, e.g. 48Hz….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...hz#post9732007
If I had to crystal ball it, in the grand scheme of the history of filmmaking, if HFR ever gains any traction with motion pictures, I would say that a fixed frame rate of 48fps will be looked back on as an early experiment….with a higher fixed frame rate or variable rates ultimately prevailing. |

![]() There is no ‘incompatibility’ between HDCP 2.2 and ‘full’ HDMI 2.0 (not to mention, as an aside, even ‘only’ HDMI 2.0 Lite (10.2 Gbps) is capable of handling 4K/24 Hz/12 bit depth/4:2:2 chroma subsampling. I posted this announcement by SI in some thread on this forum almost a year ago…http://www.siliconimage.com/Company/...with_HDCP_2_2/ Perhaps? zee chips may have gotten out to the marketplace faster if they didn’t have some workers scratching their armpits?… |

I posted this in the 4K movies thread but it's probably better here:
I want to know what the packaging will be like, I am really routing for something that is completely different from Blu-ray's. What I want is for them to be more like PlayStation 4's game boxes, I don't need to bar at the top with the Blu-ray logo it means there's less room for the artwork. Further to this once the studios have added the banner for the "this film comes with a DVD copy, a Blu-ray copy, and an ultraviolet copy" there is even less room for the artwork as that takes up about half an inch on top of the Blu-ray logo. One of the questions I have is will 3D with 4K per eye be available from launch? Looking at HEVC profile 2 I can't see it being there at all never mind with 4K per eye. Can H.264 do 3D with 4K per eye? Does anybody care to make a prediction about CES or discuss their expectations? My prediction is... We will see DTS UHD and that's that, better than nothing. The suspense is killing me, I can't wait for CES or any other tech show next year for that matter. Speaking of DTS UHD anyone care to guess as to what it could be/do? My guess is that it won't be called DTS UHD and if it is called anything close to that it will be DTS UHD MA, as far as channels are concerned I think it will be analogous to Dolby ATMOS. Imagine if it requires a different layout |

EDIT: My personal opinion is that Blu-Ray 4K will be a token release late in 2015. We won't see any significant ramp of actual titles until 2Q16. |

Here's an interesting article from HMM (dated today) which discusses what might emerge from CES regarding 4K.
http://www.homemediamagazine.com/con...nter-ces-34880 The only mention of Blu-ray is that the spec is still a year away. |

That's pretty much a given, every new format starts off with expensive hardware and only a handful of titles to play on it. 2016 will be the true start of the 4K BD era.
