I like the idea of a 21:9 set (I had a Philips one a few years ago) but not right now.

Me too!! Have a Sony VW600 (1.89) and a 52" x 122" screen (with a motorized 1.78 mask). Use the projector in 1.78 mode (1:2) and zoom for 2.35 BD titles. I am VERY grateful to be able to own one of these and have a dedicated room to put it in.

May procure a Sony FMP-X10 for some native UHD content. Been on the fence so long on this one till the barbwire has me snagged .

Understood . This is the truth, performed a rudimentary side job for 10 years (2 to 4 days a month) in order to save up for my second video projector. Started in the 90's because I knew HDTV was coming and would want a HDTV projector.

The Sony Preliminary sheet says it has 4 (BNC) SDI inputs. I know there are HDMI to SDI adapters available but do not know if any have HDMI with HDCP complaint inputs. I feel fairly certain none with HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 complaint inputs are available.

Just found that whilst doing a search on DTS X it's nothing but some might be interested. It made me wonder if we will see a change of connector on the Ultra BD players, I can't see it happening but I would be a but more comfortable if HDMI would see an upgrade before launch. How would HDMI 2.0 handle HDR?

That's all well and good from SI, but seeing how the 9777 (600 MHz + HDCP 2.2) still seems to be as rare as rocking horse poo I don't think they should be crowing about the achievements of the 9779.

It's been added to their site anyway: http://www.siliconimage.com/solutions/tv/

Plus, even when you get it, all displays (including OLEDs) drift…so re-calibration is needed on an xx regular basis in order to maintain accuracy.

HDMI 2.0 is not a limiting factor as to the bandwidth needed for HDR. On the chip side, different types of HDR require different (more or less) computing power. At CES 2015, all the major chip manufactures - Sigma Designs, Broadcom, VIXS and STM all had demos which were at different maturity levels in support of different types of HDR.

HDMI 2.0 becomes more of a limiting factor for HFR (100 fps and above) and 8K rez content.

Good to hear. I have been more than a little concerned about all the other connectors having greater specs eg. SuperMHL, Thunderbolt and Displayport.

Interconnector's.........? I know, I know apparently HDMI 2.0 will be enough although I really have my reservations with it.

HDMI 2.0 will be perfectly fine until they start working in all of the extras, like HDR, HFR, and 3D, which is probably still a few more years away.

In any case, 4K tvs from 2014 that included the HDMI 2.0 should be sufficient for the next several years for 99% of the content that gets released.

Makes one wonder what Sony will do with Blu-print. A search of Blu-print and UHD/4K turns up nothing. Will have to ask the P man if he has heard anything.

IMO, you will be lucky to to see a 1st G $500 UHD BD player. Redray players were $1600 (apparently defunct alone with Odemax), NanoTech starting at
$300 for streaming only players that have very limited capabilities and a limited UltraFlix. Then you have the Sony FMP-X10 for a mere $ 699.99. At least it can download content and stream from Netflix. Supposed to get Amazon sometime this spring.

I will be very interest in what OPPO does in regards to a UHD BD player.

FWIW: in 2006 paid > $1000 for my Panasonic DMP-BD10. Built like a tank and slow as molasses

maybe, but I would be surprised. The tech jump from current 4K up-scaling BD players to UHD BD players isn't nearly what the jump from DVD to BD was.

The first player will probably be a Panasonic, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it at $500.

Sony might also surprise us and get one to market quickly as well, since they seem to be going full tilt toward 4K more than any other company.
