Of course, because 1080p is still part of the UHD BD spec, HDR included. I've said before about how I thought there wouldn't be a lot of 1080p and/or upscaled 2K-to-4K content to start off with because the studios & manufacturers wouldn't want to confuse consumers (see flippant comment at the end of my post).
But seeing as how they've increasingly distanced themselves from the 4K branding (Sony excepted) and are playing up the other features of UHD BD like HDR and the Digital Bridge, it makes sense that 1080p content won't be ostracised and may even be embraced if the studios don't want to start shamelessly upscaling all those masses of 2K DI's (already in 10-bit P3 and so they'd just need a HDR regrade). What'll really bake people's noodles is that such discs will still be 1080p movies on a 50GB platter, SO WHY WON'T IT WORK ON MAH REGULAR PLAYA, PLAYA? ![]() |

So, when that does come to fruition and the content creators start pumping out a lot of non-cinematic HDR content (football, rugby, etc.), you’ll probably be about ready for a another TV anyway. ![]() |

Downside to 4K tv owners, is that the consumer would be at the mercy of the quality of the consumer devices’ upconvert processing, which, for another thing, would be using a comparatively inferior source to do the uprez than that with which the post house has access to but, on the other hand, you’re proposal is pragmatic and practical. With non-physical media home delivery, content creators are already making the differentiation in the labeling of their products….. “4K Ultra HD”….. https://help.mgo.com/hc/en-us/sectio...-HD-Streaming- “Ultra HD”….. https://help.mgo.com/hc/en-us/sectio...a-HD-Download- |

Regarding the BDA White Papers: See Fig 2.1 Not only export to HDD and flash drive, but also via network to mobile devices.
See CMP Export Specs: http://www.blu-raydisc.com/en/Techni...ers/BDROM.aspx |

it says mobile and network transfer is "Out-of-Scope for CMP Export specs", can someone explain this because I take it to mean the feature is not possible under this specification. Last edited by bailey1987; 08-15-2015 at 07:58 PM. |

There's also all the films on the "mastered in 4K" line that Sony released and the ones currently available on Sony's and Samsung's propriety download services. There's a bit of a list here http://4k.com/movies/ Reading through the 4K thread in this forum should shed some light as well. |

I wonder if anyone will release a PC drive before Christmas? I would love a Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive this side of Christmas 2015
![]() ![]() Can anybody remember how long after launch Blu-Ray disc drives came along? how much were they? Failing that a portable Ultra HD Blu-Ray player would be fantastic but Blu-Ray it's self can barely manage that, also of all the portable players that exist not only do they cost a fortune but they lack 1080p screens, in some cases it is cheaper to buy a laptop with a Blu-Ray reader built in which is what I ended up doing, it cost about £699 technically it was a desktop replacement laptop, far too big for a laptop and its like a breeze block sat on your lap and to say it runs hot is beyond a joke, needless to say it's knackered now, it over heats and switches itself off. ![]() |

Several of those titles are available for purchase on the Sony FMP-X10 via SEN. I have previewed several of them and see no reason to repurchase any of them because they had negligible visual benefits over the BD as viewed on a Sony VW600 with a 133" scope screen. It seems most FMP-X10 owners over at AVS agree most titles are not worth the premium price.
Some of the freebee shorts and some of the UHD stuff on YouTube actually shows more detail than the movies do. |

What we NEED is 4K versions of 70mm movies and new movies shot with 4K digital cameras. Most, if not all, of the stuff you're seeing in the freebee shorts and UDH youtube stuff was shot with 4K digital cameras. |

Agreed, unless the 35mm was shot as thick as a phonebook then it won't look dazzlingly different between a well mastered (i.e. from 4K scans) Blu-ray and the UHD version, although the wider gamut and higher bit depth of UHD may well count for something on top of the increase in spatial resolution.

The problem is that 35mm film has 4k at best. I mean the original negative: interpositive or internegative have around 3 or 3,5K. This is the reason why the most part of Blu-ray disc don't look very well. In Hollywood only a very few movie today has the original old negative. In short ONLY VERY VERY FEW movies from the past can have a real vantage in 4K (I think non more of 10%). In the present days too many movies are made in 2K or in 4K but edit in 2K.
At the end, I really think that the 4k Blu-ray will be probably a fiasco. In my opinion could be better to works to have more quality in normal Blu-ray. Last edited by danilo; 08-16-2015 at 05:01 PM. |
