Is that really $3000 US dollars? Is that for all 500 players made during the month or just one?

About £2,200....I guess I wont be importing one...

thee HEVC Main 10 encoded MP4 file version of the above mentioned ^ HDR clip produced by Fox is now freely accessible to any regular-Joe consumer having an HDR TV which can detect SMPTE ST 2084 PQ EOTF and SMPTE ST 2086 mastering display color volume metadata…..

by internet download from here - https://mega.nz/#!7oFiiY4L!qC6HuWoIw...UnFGe-WM6w0hww

I think you will find it (45-100Mbit/s) to be natural looking, unforced and far from too bright to induce visual discomfort, on the contrary, subtle dark details are clearly visible which would not be so with truncated SDR.
I think it looks just fine in SDR

John Archer has a link on the Forbes website about the new UHD Blu-ray player but for reasons unknown I am not allowed to post it here.

He has reported btw that the UHD Blu-ray Player from Panasonic will be on sale from the 13th of November.

UPDATE: Includes link from Google Search.

in the color grading suite, the following menu is in practice usage of adapting the HDR graded version (the reference grade ) of future home media releases to the lower dynamic range of Mike’s TV as seen in the drop down list of the target display….

after the tech applies his/her preferred color transform, just pray (for your SDR sake) that a conscientious trim pass is then performed.

Changed that their slightly for you.

There are a lot of 4K early adaptors, myself included, who I am sure will drop the format and stick to BD if they feel they are being intentionally ripped off for the sake of someone who cannot be arsed with 'a concientious trim pass' being performed on future media.

That is assuming people are willing to jump in at first anyhoo. £2k and 500 players a month inspires very little, if at the moment, any confidence in the direction which Ultra HD Bluray is heading.

That Amazon 4K Streaming box is looking better every day, yours arrived yet Mike?

no need to change...the workflow will be the same despite the type (physical media, OTT, etc.) of home deliverable.

And my point stands. They are facing an uphill battle getting this thing to fly as it is, without dishing out substandard product which can just as easily be viewed on a £70 streaming box with no distinguishable loss in quality.

Said it before and I will say it again. Most people cannot see the difference between 1080p and 4K at regular viewing distances, WCG is not noticeable by the majority of people, even with side by side comparisons. Leaving the elephant in the room, HDR to sell the good ship UHD BD.

There must be a good reason Amazon left HDR off their box

i don't think you understand the workflow, with HDR becoming the *reference* grade, the HDR folks will not be at risk.....the SDR version folks are the ones exposed to any potential jeopardy (short cuts) with future releases.
