Isn't the HDD in there to copy your UHD BD's to the HDD so you can stream them to another device?

I really really want a nice 4K OLED, the LG 1080p OLED I saw in John Lewis looked better than the 4K sets they had on display. |

CNET produced an article about 4K HDR TV's from Vizio (hold up, don't laugh too soon) they call 'The Vizio Reference Series'. There's a 120" unit for USD$129,999 (cough, expletive, cough) and a 65" unit for $5,999.
http://www.cnet.com/products/vizio-reference-series/ These 2 Vizio units support Dolby Vision HDR. The article seems to have a balanced discussion of 4K and HDR topics. For Penton, they even mentioned nits readings twice! So, Panasonic and Sony (where are your HDR & UHDBD product announcements Sony? Why are you hiding???) and Samsung will have another high end 4K competitor. If they (Vizio) are worthy. We'll have to see if some of the new Vizio units get out in the wild and get evaluated. |

The first BD machines in Japan were not just simple players but off-air recorders too using caddied BD media (I believe mike posted a picture of one of those behemoths earlier in the thread) so the first Japanese UHD deck having this recording capability doesn't surprise me at all. |

Japan had the first standard Blu-Ray recorders first as well, they also had a prototype version of Blu-ray that was on sale that was also a recorder, that was back when Blu-ray required the caddy so the prototype and the actual discs are incompatible.

Digital trends seems to think that the US could see the Panasonic player in December.

Fox has already announced some titles but I would expect the bulk of the UHD Blu-ray news (including launch titles) to hit around CES 2016. There might be some info next week at CEDIA, but I'm expecting the main press events and launch to coincide with CES at this point.

I guess the BDA Promotions Chairman had it wrong about region coding: https://www.avforums.com/article/the...-blu-ray.11917

So, from WikiLeaks doc. it seems reasonable that region coding will be dropped from disks with the export digital bridge option.
"2. UHD Blu-ray Region Coding BD Player manufactures requesting not to use Region Coding in UHD Blu-ray, especially now studios are requesting Export of Disc contents which will not have player unit based region control anyway. BDA is moving this direction, and 3 other studios (WB, Fox, Disney) agreed to drop region coding. SPC titles has been using region coding for specific acquisition titles." Also, on line authentication may not be as rare as you think. Particularly if it effectively reduces piracy and ripping. " 3. Online Key delivery BDA and AACS studying introduction of online key delivery for UHD Blu-ray to stop pre-street date Disc ripping & piracy. Sony Corp. BDA members asking whether studios will actually use online key distribution for Disc, and if so, how to mitigate user confusion / frequent customer call. Online key delivery is part of Hollywood studio next gen security requirements, so majority of AACS companies are supporting introduction of online key delivery system". |
